Would it be possible to set up some sort of voting structure on reviews.
If there was a choice of say 1 to 10, or a percentage even, and the reviewer entered say an 8 this could be shown somewhere. As other people vote this figure could change to show the mean average.
I think we can do YES /NO votes on this forum, how possible would this be? It's just that at the moment reviews have only one person's rating although subsequent comments indicate whether most people agree with this or not?

What do you mean? There is no rating system here, and I agree with Colin's idea of possibly getting one?

There is a perfectly good reviewing system here. The reviewer posts a thorough review, rates it.. and the rest of us are free to comment as we see fit or add our own review to the initial one.

What more do you need? There is a review system and it works just fine. And how can you comment on the setup when you have been here less than 2 minutes!!

Why complicate?

After all, a review is subjective. There is no point whatsoever 'reviewing a review'.

i.e. MemberA posts a review which MemberB disagrees with, so MemberB rates the review 1/10.

MemberC thinks the review is great, and rates the review 8/10.

The original review rated the original product 8/10.

So we have a review which scored 8/10 for the product, plus two sub-reviews of the review of 1/10 and 8/10.

So what does that tell us?

Diddly squat.

People often post in a reviews thread their opinion aswell. From the original review and following posts it become fairly clear whether a trick is any good or not. Not sure about you but i aint gonna be buying an effect just because it has an 8 rating or whatever. Its just not needed i don't think

Well.. The way Colin says it the percentage could be averaged out depending on how many people vote and what they vote on.

It simply won't work.

Plus, hearing a constructive response to a review speaks more than yes/no.

A mean average will tell us nothing though. Subsequent replies to reviews only serve to higlight indivuals opinions on the product, it has no bearing to if the effect is any good or not. It all comes down to preference.

No Michael. You do have a say, but sometimes other people may not always agree, like in this case. Its simply not possible to keep everyone happy all of the time.

Hey Michael - I'm pretty new round here as well. I don't post many messages but I'm a regular reader.
We all have a say and I'm glad to have your support. I also welcome the negative posts.
I think it's a good idea but then I don't know if it's possible on this site so we gotta take all views.

Personally, I think our current system works very nicely. We are always able to debate and exchange ideas. The subsequent conversations after the initial review often prove to be more useful than the review itself. With a simple rating, it wouldn't necessarily give supporting reasons WHY the review score has gone down.

Your idea is a good one, and I see where you're coming from. However, hang out a bit and watch as more reviews get posted. You'll see our system is incredibly useful.

I base almost all purchases on the word of members of this forum. If certain people (Seige, Tom Lauten, Abraxus, Tomo, Cardza, Bananafish, Mandrake - to name but a few) post a favorable review - 9 times out of 10 it will be the deciding factor of any purchases. That's one of the main attractions to this forum over the others. Some forums don't have this level of interactivity and discussion, while others don't even allow negative reviews to be seen. Keep hanging around guys, you'll see the review system is pretty darn good.

I think it works great as well, Nowadays I never buy a product until its been reviewed here. Like Demitri said you also get the down sides to an effect as well as the good. Then you get to make your own mind up as to whether it would suit your own style.

Nice suggestion but I don't think that a mean average is a very accurate way of deciding on an effect.
