when you got into magic? I ask becuase i got into it at what some may see as late, if not quite late at 18, being 6 months ago so i was just wondering really ?

I was five when I got my first magic trick. My dad always did them for me when I was a kid. He wasn't big into magic, I think it was just something that he learned to amuse me. Anyway, the first trick I got was the zig-zag card. Basically it's the zig-zag lady stage illusion but used with a small plastic case a and a queen of diamonds. Even though I was five when I got my first trick, I performed magic sparingly and I didn't really do much until i was about nine when I started to get more tricks than before.

Wow... I see a trend... I was 4 when I got my first magic kit... was a regular viewer of THE MAGIC LAND OF ALAKAZAM.

But, in saying that I will point out that 18 is not all that late. I know many that were in their 40s before getting sucked into this addiction so don't feel out of place

I only got into magic when I was about 18/19 too.

But here's a question, do you think the age you start magic has an impact on the way you perceive it? For example would someone who has grown up as a magician have a different outlook on it than a late starter?

I was about 7 - the second edition magic books were written in pigment in papyrus but were certainly better than the first edition chiselled stone tablets. Far too heavy to read on the bus.

If someone's magical experience is relatively recent and restricted to the types of magic currently shown on TV etc then I would expect the outlook to be different to those who saw Mark Wilson on US TV, Paul Daniels and David Nixon etc on UK TV and so on. Having said that, we can distil and blend those experiences through places like TM and all learn from those different thoughts and ideas.

I was 28 if that makes you feel better. 3 years ago i went to see a Derren Brown show with a demon, sorry, ex-girlfriend, and i became an immediate obsessive and am now a full time magician.

I was about 7 or 8 when I got my first Paul Daniels magic set. Got quite into it, had some of the Paul Daniels card tricks too and a couple of other sets and books.

Lost interest when I got to about 13 but picked it back up again about two years ago.

When I was a child I had a few goes at getting started in magic by going to the library and getting books but I never seemed to be able to grasp it properly.

There was then a gap of over 20 years and then at 35yrs of age I had another go and am still at it.

I flitted in and out of magic on a very base level since my Paul Daniels set when I was 8 or 9. After that I had a Marvins magic cups and balls given to me as a novelty pressie when I was in my early twenties and a few years ago I bought Jaw Droppers out of interest and from that I learnt a simple coin through table and caught the bug.

Well I've always had an interest in magic, and if we are going by magic sets then I'd say I was about 7. But I never felt that I got 'properly' into magic, I was just getting the odd magic trick for christmas etc. but I always felt like I wasn't getting the proper magic stuff, I felt like I was only getting the stuff the magicians wanted me to see.

I have allways been a huge fan of magic, so allthough the current forms of magic we see on tv infulenced me to start I believe i have a well rounded view and knowledge of it

allthough that might not be correct, I am well and truely hooked now

that wouldnt be from Universal Studios, would it? that was the 'trick that got me back into magic, started out with some freebies from kellogs, to be honest, around the age of 6-7, as far as i remember, then my brother showed me an Aces trick, and i started a few card sleights, way before i realised printed media was available. i carried on until i was about 16, then stopped (cant really remember why) then two years ago, in Florida, i sw the hummingbird demo and was seriously took back, and knew i had o get back into it... been doing it regularly since...
