I must say i haven't really noticed any bad manners in particular on TM but i always make sure i use my P's and Q's, mainly just out of respect for the person you're talking to. Obviously you will always get exceotions but jup to now ive found most of the members on tm to be very nice and fairly well mannerd

The situation is actually worsened when speaking (or writing) in other languages that have more of a respect element built-in, like French or Italian (the only 2 others that I speak - there are undoubtedly more). It's particularly bad when English people who know how to speak or write in these languages (but are not of that nationality so may not know the customs) apply this lack of manners when conversing in them.

In Italy, for example, all forms of informal communication like e-mail are still quite respectful, from what I've experienced myself booking reservations all over the country for a trip last year.

Well, I don't know about other kids my age, but I always use my 'pleases', 'thank yous', and 'I'm sorrys' whenever appropriate. In that case: Thank you, Mr. Tipton, for bringing this to the attention of us magicians; please spread the joy of manners to everyone; and I'm sorry if you were ever offended if I was seemingly rude. Have an excellent day.

:D :D :D :D :D :D

If there is one sure fire way of getting noticed for all the right reasons then it's having good manners.

It's apparently so uncommon these days that it provokes people to comment on this when they experience it from you.

It's one of the things that I pride myself in having.

Thank you, TalkMagic. Thank you to your owners, sponsors, moderators, administrators and everyone else who takes out chunks of their own time and money to give us this opportunity to talk about magic, and plenty else besides. Thank you for being there 24/7/365 and for keeping the forum clean and tidy. Thank you for providing a place where we can give, take and generally share.

As PT Barnum once said, "I don't care what you say about me as long as you spell my name right".

I was really impressed when reading a thread by Michael Kras who I believe is only 14, he was getting chastised from every direction and was only ever polite saying please, thank you and sorry, even when he had no reason to. Well done and keep it up Michael.
As for txt talk, I have noticed that we have some older 'English gents' on this forum so I try my best to check my spelling and not use slang. This is not how I actually talk but I will try to get on with everyone so its no skin off my nose to put in some effort. The referances to Chavs is getting annoying and there should only be two types (classes) of people, Magicians (Pros or amatures) and the Spectator.

Manners are important and even if no one else has them, that just makes them more valuble! :- Trickyfied (I just quoted myself 8) )

I actually admire everyone else more, for not actually disclosing what they REALLY wanted to say to him ;) Now THAT is manners :D

Oh Seige, be nice to the poor lad. He's just very enthusiastic, which I'd much rather see compared to some we get on here.

Lady... people *tried* being reasonable, and *tried* helping.

But just for you, I will be more reasonable.

After all, you are my pink and fluffy guardian angel ;)

Yeah, I hate to further the problem with Sir Kras, but some of his stuff got really under my skin and I had to hold a couple of punches. Things look a little bit better for him, though.
