Torch Thru Arm

Postby Schwen » May 22nd, '07, 11:12

I have searcehed but cannot seem to find any information or reviews on this trick

http://www.elmwoodmagic.com/full/Magic- ... __3498.htm

Has anyone tried this trick, and is it really as impressive as it sounds? and how difficult is it to perform, will it take me long to pick up? Also, I won't be working with live doves, so would it be possible to produce something else at the end, maybe a stuffed toy, or someone's card from an earlier card trick that "went wrong"?

Thanks for any help you can offer, I really would like to hear some opinions before I consider shelling out that kind of money and you guys seem to know your stuff

Hey Schwen!

I used to have the old 'Candle Thru' Arm', which I'm pretty certain is exactly the same effect...just with a candle, instead of...well...a torch!

In answer to your question - pretty much a self-working effect, very, very easy to pick up, and looks incredible to the audience too.

You do have to be a little cautious with the way you handle the tube, so as not to flash something you shouldn't (but that's just common sense, really).

Never got into Doves, for my cabaret stuff, so I really can't comment upon the final production I'm afraid; I'm sure there'll be a dove-worker hereabouts, who would be able to give you some views on the climax.

Hope this helps! :D

Thanks for the swift response, it does indeed help a lot, sounds like this might be the kind of thing I'm after. Not a massive fan of self working tricks, but I've shown my friends a few card and coin tricks, and they keep pestering me for more tricks. Well I'm busy working my way through card college and don't really wanna try anything too complicated until I have 100% confidence in my ability. So something like this should blow them away (not literally, unless it goes very wrong) and keep them happy for a bit whilst I practice on the cards a bit more.

With regards to the dove production, I can only assume this is more of a move on the performers part, rather than something that is incorporated into the tube?
