Dont do it!!

Postby psychogoat » Jan 7th, '07, 23:48

Ok guys...this whole KAOS thing is really not what it seams. It's typical of Elluaionist not to concentrate on the magic trick itself, they just consentrate on getting you to buy it...which I'm advising you not to do. Instead, if you are a magician, go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zghvk8GJ4bc

Its a performance by a random person...watch him carefully and you will see how its done.

Serves you right, ellusionist

I've just bought Kaos and haven't yet watched it but I do think that there are a number of pionts here that are perhaps being missed.

It's been clear in other posts that after carefull practice and with the right presentation, this routine is one that can blow the specs away.

The example on YouTube is perhaps NOT the best presentation but it appears to be revealed by the filming - not the magician. However, it still shouldn't have been posted because it does contain a reveal, albeit accidentally (benefit of the doubt here).

I wouldn't necessarily dismiss magic that is released by Ellusionist despite their at times hyped marketing. It may not be everyones cup of tea I admit but they do have some good stuff amongst their catalogue.

Ellusionist do push their products hard with advertising, and in some cases leave out details of the actual performance. However, KAOS is genuinely great trick, the fact that some 'magicians' have to search for badly performed or revealing filmed clips on youtube to try spot the method only shows its quality.

to try and tip the method of this trick by posting a link to dodgy clips like that is nothing short of pathetic. This is still the creation of an individual, and should be respected as such.

try buying this, learning the fine points of the performance , and then actually giving it a try. I was in a friends kitchen, playing poker, at the end of the game they asked to see a card trick. I did KAOS for them on their large sliding glass door, afterwards they looked shocked, and one of my mates seemed hesitant to shake my hand as he was leaving, as if i was the devil. They were totally baffled.

this trick is all in the performance, you have to beleive you are doing it, really pulling the card slowly through the window.

buy it, try it, but for gods sake dont be a lame ass and try to reveal it.

peace

I also got this CTW trick, and I like/love the idea,,, It uses a slight that I don't do on regularly basis, to bad. But the idea that the spec is the who really helps the magician on a trick is a wonderful idea.

The DVD goes over all 3 methods, one 100% impromptu one 50/50 impromptu and one 100% gimmicked.

You can do this effect without any gimmicks.

I tend to agree with one of the above posts - I was so impressed with the Demo I purchased Kaos direct from Ellusionist on a Friday afternoon (Didn't know who sold this in the UK) and received it on the Monday. Little disappointed when I saw how it was actually done.

Then again perhaps I need to be more confident during my presentations to really give it the "Wow factor" and get the reaction other performers do.

ok ok , Im totally TOTALLY not into this whole "Trick" revealing thing, but even if i know how a trick IS done its not that that gets me, its the presentation that gets me. But i sure prefer to know how a trick is done prior to buying it. Thats one of my loves about B/pool convention. 9/10 dealers are like "Heres the effect , heres how it is done" wither love it or hate it.

But Kaos......hmmmmmm..... I really wanna buy it cause i could use it....but I really will need to have even a hint at how its done.

A very wise (and Crabbit) Sadowitz once said "Any C**t can know how a trick is done, but doing it!....thats a different story all together."

I think It is quite easy to work out what is the move that is used in Kaos, but I still bought it purely because I think the effect is strong and I wanted to know all the subtleties. I think it realy benefited me purchasing it as I know other wise I probably wouldn't have performed it at all. Oh and if you want a UK seller, I bought mine from Davenports. NO I will not purchase Ellusionist shipping! And the download option doesn't work for me because I have a mac.

Couple of things.
1) To those of you who think it is expensive for what it is, did you think of it? If you bought it an thought "erm, I could have thought of that", you didn't and therefore that is what you are paying for. If you can already pull off the moves, great you have a new routine. It might not all be new science, but it's used in a new way. Which is what this is all about really. For me, this is the best way of achieving this effect.

2) Has anyone tried to perform this where there are obstructions, for example, having to leave the room to appear on the other side of the glass/window? Does this lesten the effect in any way? I have not tried this yet, but I feel i will have to soon, and will be looking for the best solutions to any audience dampers that may have appeard to anyone else.

I was personally very pleased with this purchase, I thought that it was innovative, and that the part that everyone here was discussing was the least exciting part. I for see this as an important addition to my arsenal. My previous CTWs were very well recieved, but left me feeling a little hollow inside.
