Loops

Postby LeftEye » May 22nd, '07, 20:45

Now, this is not a quesion about the Ellusionist new videos . I was wondering if any of you guys do use loops during routines. I have heard of them before but had not ever seen them in action.

The videos on said website do look really nice. 25 quid for 16 effects with a new gimmick does sound tempting, but I know I'll be replacing the loops often and it will get rather expensive.

I havn't looked into how much new loops cost though. But anyway, enough with my decisions and back to the question...

Do you guys ever use loops?

I do have used loops in the past and from time to time still do but to save money I make my own ones up using the S.T.E.A.L.T.H system which is a download from N.U.M.S.
Loops can be useful for impromptu levitations or my favourite, moving cutlery. The is also a book called animated by Yigal mesika called 'Animated miracles' which is meant to be a pretty good guide to what sort of things can be done with loops.

The S.T.E.A.L.T.H system, is it any good, I mean are the loops exactly the same as the ones you would order?

if you get the Yigal mesika elastic then a definite yes! The s.t.e.a.l.t.h system is honestly a great way to create loops. Once you have made the gimmick which is easy as pie to make......even I can do it......you will be able to make 5 loops in 10 mins easily which is quicker than a trip to the shops and more convenient.
If you use loops then save yourself a packet and get it.

loops

Postby Trickyfied » May 22nd, '07, 22:04

I got my Yigal mesika loops from a magic shop on ebay at £5.99 the lowest price I could find, I also bought some cheaper ones (unbranded) from ebay at about £3.50 but they were very visible unless the conditions were perfrect. I definatley would stick to Yigal Mesika, but i am planning on getting IT and magicians wax and trying that out. The fact that loops are there waiting and ready without any set up makes them very apealing but I only have 2 left from 5 after practicing.

I use Mesika loops all the time. Every time I go out performing, next strongest effect to Card Warp. Would never be without them.

Nowadays I hardly ever break them so there is no way I'd mess about making my own, they only cost half a pint each one !! But so strong an effect !!

Just another big thumbs up for the Stelth system for home grown loops. I got the moulded jig from Alakazam and don't regret a single penny of it.

Loops are great but you will break 'em at first. The other night I made it through my first complete evening without ruining one so I was happy, they're especially good for impromtu animation such as making a fag box flip over. Also the haunted deck instructions that come with the loops are wonderful, very clever impromtu trick.

Babusatiki,

I'm sure I could go to a load of places and buy a suitcase full of loops for £1.50. However, how many would be any good ??

In England, we have had a saying for centuries, you gets what you pays for. And strangely enough, with all this cheap magic being sold all over the world on the internet, this saying is becoming more and more understandable to people today.

Buy something from a reputable person, and it may not suit your style, but it will work. Buy something cheap from dubious sources and you may never get over the starting block with it !!
