There's a very fine line between teaching and exposure and it's always intriguing to know how much of the stuff sold on these sites is actually theirs to sell. Basic sleights etc are public domain and probably equally well explained in the various card working DVDs on sale.

What gets up my nose is phrases such as 'Magic's greatest trick - the Ambitious card routine'. Once again the blinkered assumption that magic consists of cards, cards and only smegging cards! OK, AC might well be a biggie in the card section but there's an awful lot more out there!

Hmm - really not too sure about this.

Much of it still seems to be under construction, the registration process is somewhat weird, and there's no price-guides for the 'premium' content.

Whilst what's there is focussed on cards-only at present, up-coming content looks to include:

Penetrations

Spirit writing

Levitations

...I'm fairly certain there WILL be exposure issues before too long

I agree. Thats the reason I posted it , to get feedback, I know the chap (or sort of know him) that created this site and He has been "Interested" in magic for a year. Give or take a month or two. ! ! !

He also said the site is still not finished but to be honest, im so not happy he is doing it, but he wont listen.

He has bought a few DVD's, a few Gimmicks we ALL fell for when we first started...THE RAVEN (C'mon???) . He learn 1 maybe 2 Mediocre card moves at best.

I tried to advise him on the conscequenses of this. But it fell on def ears.

Just sounds like a money making scheme to me. I can't really see that he's offering anything that I couldn't get from Mark Wilson or Royal Road.

I think it's pretty bad that he's trying to push stuff on new magicians but he's not even the best person to be teaching them. J.B. Bobo or Mark Wilson should be teaching these things . . . . or Professor Dumbeldore (Go Harry Potter!)

What particularly annoys me, just to expand on previous comments here:

It can be, but it shouldn't be. Judging by Divinity's comments he is using his own experience to draw a conclusion which doesn't have to be true.

This website changes all that.

No it doesn't. There was nothing to change because there have always been pretty cheap resources (written by professionals with enough experience to warrant the creation of such a resource); for just a few examples include:

The Secrets of Conjuring and Magic - Roubert Houdin (1868)
Modern Magic - Professor Hoffmann (1876)
The Expert at the Card Table - S.W. Erdnase (1902)
The Royal Road to Card Magic - Hugard & Braue (1949)
Modern Coin Magic - J.B. Bobo (1952)
Magician's Magic - Paul Curry (1965)
Complete Course in Magic - Mark Wilson (1975)

Of course there are many other classics but these are some of the best ones available inexpensively, and all written by people with more than one year's experience.

We intend to put everything that you need to learn in one place.

Oh. So just like Complete Course, RRTCM etc.?

I really don't think much will come of this website. A few people might buy a few of the videos, but I honestly can't see this hitting the big-time.

With a copy of RRTCM and Bobo, you'll get more value out of this site for free than you will paying for that one.

Why is it that every kid who reads a book on magic and learns a trick or two suddenly thinks that they have the right to start teaching anyone else? This thoroughly disgusts me.

This may not be the most constructive post ever but IMO that is a pile of poo. The thing is that some poor people completely new to the subject will fall for it.

and there folks is the crux of my creating this horrible succubus of a post. There will be some poor shmo that takes the easy option. I know it was not easy for me learning. It took along time for "the right doors" to open up to the world of magic I know now (and extremely greatful for) - CAll me sentimental - or just mental - but when i even discuss magic or practice in anyway, i feel a sense of fulfilment (right, get the Bailey's).

I just would hate to think its mechanised in a way. A bit like learning the guitar. How many people try and learn the guitar , play 1 or 2 songs then ditch it....? - Another Cold Reading Coo there folks.

Anyway, sorry to rant on, but its something i feel strongly about.
