Throw Change

Postby sammy1779 » May 24th, '07, 08:50

I am currently working through Bill Malone On the Loose Vol.2 and I'm wokring on the trick - Favourite Opener.

I am asking whether anyone has performed the throw change for lay people. I have practicesd it lots but feel i might get caught flashing or something and now wondering whether its worth performing.

any tips or advice would be appreciative..

thanks

I do and it's beautiful! The only thing you may get called on is the awkward handling of the card BEFORE the throw. If you're worried about it, you'll get spotted. If you're just casually throwing a card down, however, there's no reason for the audience to be burning your hands. The only way you can know for sure if you'll be caught is to go out and do it. So go out and do it!

EDIT: After the toss, bring the dirty hand quickly but smoothly back to the deck. You don't want to jerk it back, but it absolutely must be done in one smooth motion. Lift, toss, clean up...

Ciao,
Rob

There are several things that will help you not get caught on this. The first is to convince yourself that you anly have one card. If you believe it your spectators will and they have no reason to be suspicious.

The second is to keep your hand moving after you've done the change. If your hand never stops they'll not be able to catch you out.

You need to verbally and physically focus all of your spectators attention on the card you've just thrown. Make sure you are looking at it, make sure you are talking about it (don't be too heavy on it though, "so that is the card I was just holding and you are holding it so I cannot change it" might be a bit ridiculous) and focus all of your body language on that card being the most important thing in the routine right now as the trick could not happen without it. With this importance attached to it (not verbally of course) you'd have to have a pretty awakward spectator to take his eyes off it to watch what you are doing. And even then he probably still won't spot it.

Just do it and be confident with it (if you're not, fake it!)
