Hello,

I was wondering if anyone can name some effective walkaround magic that can be done in a loud setting, for example, a party. I was just at a party trying to do card magic, and had to shout as loud as I possibly could during the effects. It got so bad I just started doing colour changes and went off.

Please give me the name of the effect and, if it is in a book or DVD, where to find it. Thank you!

Most rope and sponge ball magic should suffice

I believe Jay Sankey has extolled the virtues of Leaving Home, in that it can be done in a loud environment...

Those kinds of environments are a nightmare though. Casually (i.e. as a guest) at house parties it's fine, there's always somewhere quite quiet - but at the more professional parties, as a hired entertainer, they really are a pain, especially as a lot of what I do depends on the connection between myself and my audience.

In these instances I do some similar material but that which is more visual. Ghost Bills, for example, plays well with patter, but the visual element means it will work where it's too loud for patter; basic card effects such as sandwich plots, some visual elements of an ACR etc. will work with basic gestures (e.g. spreading a deck of cards before someone with a slight forward gesture and encouraging nod will get most people to pick one).

I don't own any materials devoted specifically to material for such environments myself (I rarely work them in a professional capacity), rather draw on pieces from books here and DVDs there.

Thank you. I used to do Leaving Home, and Ghost Bills sounds like a good buy.
