Thanks for everyones advise on here! I now own two cracking books and a new set of cards to set me on the road to performing magic!

Good times ahead! 8)

Actually, Tally-Hos are more commonly seen by lay people than black tigers. If you want to do card tricks, sticking to bikes, studs, and THs is a better choice.

My personal favourite are Studs. Same, if not better, quality as decks three times its price.

Currently Reading "House of Mystery" (Abbott, Teller), Tarbell, Everything I can on busking

Yeah that's what I'm doing over this bank holiday.

I've been attempting the classic palm and shuffling! I need to nail these before attempting the tricks I belive? Otherwise I'll hit a brick wall

OOPS EDIT: I meant classic plaming a coin from Modern Coin Magic!! Not cards

Yes you will need to practice the sleights before practicing the tricks, otherwise you will just be practicing the sleights again :D if that makes any sense

it took me over 6 months to nail the pass...but when done, you dont half feel a sense of achievement!

Yeah, my pass is more than a bit lacking at the moment sadly. I read in another thread somewhere on here that a lot of people don't even bother with it because it's so hard. I'm definitely going to leave it a while until I've mastered most other stuff like the shuffles, D/Ls, palming, forcing etc.

I would like to recomend another book to you. Not everybody would have the same opinion, but it helped me a lot in a very short space of time.

Paul Zenon:Street Magic

It is around the £10-15 mark, but I found it a worthwhile investment for me.

I'm not sure how many people would agree with me, but it is just something that I would recomend - it actually, in hindsight, helped me more than the royal road did!

although royal road does have a lot more material...

either way my friend, enjoy learning!

Funny you should mention that one, I was thinking about buying it over the summer; apparently it's a fairly comprehensive guide to anything and everything that is street magic. Fancy writing a review of it?

i think it is already on the forum...somewhere...

it doesnt teach the pass or anything, but it teaches things like the DL, Double Undercut, springing the cards, coin sleights e.t.c

it helped me most in that it taught the DL, DU, and springing...love it! :D

Your onto the palming already? It took me a while before I reached that. But don't be worrying cards falling everywhere, everyone is like that in the begining. If I was you though I would really get your shuffling and controls down. They are among the most important things you will learn in the beginning.

Can anybody please help me? I'm having terrible problems controlling my streetmagic- I can't walk down a street without turning into a pub.
