The best deck for...

Postby willy_master_magician » May 25th, '07, 18:09

Hey all you party people! I was wondering, which deck do you all recommend for forcing. I already have a svengali and its o.k., but I was looking for something different. Please dont be distant, leave a reply.

As with most things it really depends on what you're wanting to use it for. Forcing decks are made for the job although this may not be suitable for what you are wanting to use it for. There are also alot of forces that require no special deck.

There's a whole bunch of forces you can do with a regular deck.

Failing that, you obviously don't mind gaff decks, so, how about the old chestnut of a one-way forcing deck.

one way, two-way or three-way forcing deck.

Though if I were you Id spend a couple of quid on a forcing book '10 card forces' or Annemans '101 ways of forcing a card' whichever one grabs your attention

yeah i agree, i would use either a svengali deck or a forcing deck. but personally, if you just want to force a card on someone i would use a normal deck and just do the riffle force or the hindu shuffle force :)

Whats wrong with the most natural force, the classic force. It is often over looked all so you can do it with someone elses cards for one of them show me a card trick moments.

I am master of misdirection, look over there.

We are not falling out young Welshy, we are debating, I think farlsy is an idiot he thinks I am one. We are just talking about who is the bigger idiot.

A normal deck and Aanneman's "202 Card Forces" or Lewis Jones' exquisite "Encyclopaedia of Card Forces" (500 forces in that one alone) can give you an an entire career!

Failing that, a stripper deck is, as Magicdiscoman implied, a proper treat for a working magician. That's not because I sell a book on the deck. It's because in writing it I discovered that it's true,

I think it's best if people had a good base in forcing with a normal deck before moving onto gimmicked decks such as the svengali deck. It is good to do the work before you take it easy with decks designed to make forcing easier, it prevents magicians from getting lazy.

I would agree with that. Having said that, I own a forcing deck called Force of Thought which I think is superb.

Just get a deck of cards and Royal Road to CArd Magic. You will never need a gimmick deck again

I'll agree with that, 202 Forces is a brilliant little book and costs so little. There are lots of really brilliant forces in there, you'll always be able to find something that fits with what you want.

I'm not sure if I've missed something here but is the Anneman book "202 Method's Of Forcing"? Only a small portion of the book is card forces, the rest being things like forcing words and stuff like that isn't it?

My personal favourite would be to use a normal deck and a riffle or dribble force.

However, I do enjoy the fun to be had with one-way forcing decks. I have a routine I use which exposes the one way forcing deck to the spectators, but completely confuses the c*** (not the best) out of them. It's so fun!

yes, the book is 202 methods of forcing. The majority of the book deals with card forces with a selection of deck switches, number forces, page forces and other bits too.
