hey guys, just thought id say a lil summit here about the top change.

i us ethis slight often to switch cards, for example, classic force a card, top change, put down, classic force the same card e.t.c e.t.c

but i just want to say I tried something different last friday night whilst performing. he had a card chosen, i revealed it, really good and all that. but then i did the TC right in front of him, and immeditaely dropped the deck of cards to my side.

i held the card between us, about a foot in front of my body, then turned it over. The reaction was the best reaction to a colour change i have ever had - and obviously, I was left completely clean! he examined the card, and was left speechless!

thats all for now. just thought i would share a great experience to such an overlooked piece of sleight of hand!

I absolutely love the TC, more so than the DL (ducks as decks fly at my head and I get jeered at).

I prefer it because the card can be handled more freely, to the spec it really does look like it has just changed by magic.

I have to agree that I like the TC. I need to get mine down a little smoother before I start using it properly but for the stage it is at now, it is still a nice, useful little sleight.

Don't have the books in front of me yet, but do I find it in RRTCM or Card College?

Its in royal road, or expert card technique i cant rember which, i dont own it but its allmost certainly in card college.

Its in RRTCM, its the last sleight taught before moving onto routines etc

i know the feeling mr beard, i used to do top changes quite a bit, then pretty much forgot about them; but now Pot Of Jam has renewed my love!

The Top change is one of my favourite moves, hands down. Use it all the time.

It's not a sleight that I use very often to be honest, only with the odd trick I do. But it is still a very nice sleight and very useful.

Yes it's surprising how easily you can get aways with this even when people are looking closely at you hands it doesn't seem to register with them. I find if you do the move instantly after turnign the card face down, the turnign of the card can kind of help to cover the move.

I found it yesterday in my RRTCM. Great sleight. Just one thing: I notice that my Tally Ho's make a "swishing" sound when doing the switch due to their finish. Suppose Bicycles would do the same sound. I find it quieter with plastic coated finish like Fourniers. Anyone else has any thoughts on that or noticed the same thing?

there is a slight sound but the more you practice it, the quieter you'll be able to do it. I tend to cover it with some patter and gestures which I find works really well.

Ian Kendall has a great tutorial video for the TC in his Virtual Sessions area. The quantity and quality of the content in there (cards, coins and poker-chips) is exceptional and great value-for-money.
