Looking for non-gaff tricks to learn

Postby Kemo » May 29th, '07, 00:50

I know tricks such as twisting the aces, two card monte, dr. Daley's last trick, The AC, Jazz aces, Jokers wild, Jumping Gemini and a couple other tricks of the like.

does any one have any suggestion as to other tricks i could learn that are for the most part impromptu or only use a duplicate and no gaffs or gimmicks in the trick?

one thing i forgot mention... my skill with cards is limited... i can do the DL, elmsly, palm... and a couple cheesy forces and a couple of quick false cuts.

so feel free to suggest some good slights/forces to learn... aside form the classic force... since i just can't trust it

Get yourself one of Michael Ammar's Easy to Master Card Miracle DVDs. They feature some of the best card tricks around; in fact, you may already own at least one of his DVDs, judging by your list of tricks. They represent superb value for money as each DVD teaches about ten card tricks, most of which are really quite superb. And it's certainly cheaper than going out and buying every packet trick in sight.

I would get the Royal Road to Card Magic if you don't have it already. It's very good for learning the true card tricks that don't rely on gimmicks.

Royal Road is a brilliant book full of great information. Also Mark Wilson's Complete Course is worth getting hold of for some brilliant non card tricks.

if you can do a decent d/l and you use a dupe you can do a very easy yet mindblowing two card transposition.

A great DVD that gave me some useful routines when I started out was Thirteen by Andrew Murray. It has some pretty powerful routines using basic sleights and mostly just a normal deck.

What tricks you should learn is really something only you can tell, it depends on your level, style and routines.

What I do is work through a book from cover to cover and make a note of all the tricks that I like and can use, then go back to that list and try to put them into a routine.

if you nip across to amazon.co.uk or com, there's some lovely stuff in some Karl Fulves books (self-working in the main), or you could try Scarne on Cards...or any annemann card book...

Loads of sleights, technique and tricks. Cheap as well.

also is the book "Expert at the card table" a good one to get... also is it for more advance card handlers or is it good for beginner card handlers

Steven's Magic in the U.S. has been the leader in video styled products for well over two decades now. They have several Teach-in type video collections including a multi-part collection featuring people like Mullica, Kornhouser,. Brian Flora, Docc Hillford, etc. doing genuine improvisational magic, bar magic, etc.

I'd highly recommend you take a look

Too, grab the McBride Manipulation Series of DVDs with that knowledge you can go just about anywhere and do most anything. There are a few specialty tapes out there on Sleeving that aren't half bad either.

Tell them I sent you
