Advice for Beginner

Postby Gob Bluth » May 30th, '07, 20:46

Hi,

I've just started to learn card magic using 'The Royal Road to Card Magic'

Is there any other books etc. a complete beginner such as myself should be aware of?

I like close up magic, mainly card magic if this helps. The general feeling i get is that the 'Royal Road' is the bible for this sort of thing, but just wondered if you guys had any other advice?

thanks in advance.

Gob.

Two other books everyone on here will recommend are Marc Wilson's Complete Course in Magic and Jean Bobo's Modern Coin Magic. Don't say I didn't tell you. :P

As a self stated beginner with an intertest in cards, you could go for a Karl Fulves book - self working card miracles (I think that's the title but I'm sure that someone will correct me  )

Cheap, practical and a nice companion to Royal Road without over complicating matters. In fact, there are a whole series of Karl Fulves books on a variety of different magical topics, all aimed at beginners.

Secondly, if you haven't already done so, read the stickies at the top of the home page as one of our members wrote a good piece that made various recommendations for beginners.

Happy hunting and I hope that this helps, without you having to sepnd too much money just yet. However, sooner or later CUPS will get you - as it gets us all

I started learning about a week ago. I bought Royal Road and Bobo's Modern Coin Magic.

You already have Royal Road which I've only briefly looked at (as I'm concentrating on coins) is pretty impressive but I'd also get Modern Coin Magic as it's amazing as well!

The next book on my list is Mark Wilson's Complete Course in Magic.

Hope that helps.

How are you getting on with Royal Road?

Welcome to TM :D

I'd say the big 3 you need are Royal Road, Bobo and Mark Wilson as has already been said above.

Karl Fulves books are also very good and well worth a read.

good luck with it all
