Not sure of the name of the item but 'Spirit Hand' sounds familiar.

Without being too specific... it allows you to hold up a jacket with both hands yet still have a hand free to carry out various nefarious activities behind said jacket.

Anyone know the correct name and/or point me to a supplier?

If you get hold of the ridiculously cheap "Easy Magic" by Karl Fulves (Dover), you'll find an impromptu method. The only equipment required is a cloth and something you will have lots of around the house.
