Prohibition - About the cap

Postby PickAnyCard » Jun 1st, '07, 16:00

I think I will buy this. But I have a question before buying it. I saw that the cap is bent, while watching the demo.

I kind of understand why it is, but: What is the reason you give to the spectator, that the cap is bent?

Well, you don't actually need to tell them anything. You show them the cap in the bottom of the bottle, and then tip it out again. The reason they arrive at on their own is that you couldn't get it in there without bending it. The last thing you want to do is make that explicit in your patter.

What you call heroism is just an expression of this fact; there is never a scarcity of idiots

I say something like, "now, if you notice, there are no holes in the bottle that the cap could slip out of" as I rattle the cap around the inside of the bottle. Works for me...

It is discussed on the dvd - and it is originally done as a throw away joke line.

ie, Can you get the cap in the bottle?, if they say yes and bend it themselves great if the don't you get a laugh when you say how easy it is if you bend the cap.

It makes it no less powerful that the cap is bent. The bottle and cap are both examined.

i ALWAYS hand the spec the cap and say, everyone tells me there is only one possible way to get the cap in the bottle, they then all ask if they can bend it i say sure, as long as the bottle cap remains whole, then they put it in themselfs. i think that makes it more special, as they have bent it, its similar to them signing it it means its definatly the cap they bent that ends up in there.

ie. how were you supposed to know they would bend it?

does that make sense? it doesnt to me lol

I agree with rvoice100's comment, bending the cap has more or less the same effect as them signing the cap.
Its really useful for people who like to touch things all the times - the "Touchy-touchy" people (I'm sure some people will understand what I'm saying! )
My patter goes somthing along the lines of;
"I'm not the best magician in the world - I'll say that now. So what I am going to do, is just to bend the cap slightly. *at this point, the spectator might say somthing like "But you can get it through the top!" I then ask them to place their hand over the top (a version which he teaches in the DVD)* more patter, and somthing like 'its a tight squeeze, but because I've bent it, it should go through like a hot knife through butter!'.

Anyway, thats my routine - you can adapt this trick to suit your needs - thats what is so great about it, I've come up with lots of idea's, by just using the principle taught in this DVD.

Oh, and any other suggestions on my routine (Is it good, bad?) would be appreciated!

And THAT is why you bend the cap

I like the suggestions about letting the spectator bend the cap. That way you don't have some nut jobs saying that you are using a phony bottle cap or something like that. I think it's a good way to eliminate suspicion.
