As the owner of the Scorpion I have to say if you wish to perform something of this ilk go with this version.

It is pretty much fool proof. If you get this wrong then you are a complete and utter idiot. Secondly it looks and feels pretty fearsome and lastly the fact that the scorpion is an object that has a historical background as a ninja weapon gives you more patter and a reason to be performing.

And never underestimate rooting an effect in a story or applying a history to it.

Lady of Mystery wrote:I know it's been said on here before but if you see an effect and then go away and work out your own method, aren't you simply cheating the creator out of their money? If you buy the effect, you usually get so much more, you'll get performance tips, quite likely the method will be better than the one you've come up with. It's often worth it to buy the effect.

I know some effects are way over priced and that's a real shame, but you can usually find the same effect in some old, dusty, forgotten about book for a fraction of the price.

Old, dusty, forgotten books are exactly my point. Simple methods without the expensive packaging and endorsements, allowing you to develop your own touches and unique presentation.

And I don't mean taking an effect and copying it absolutely exactly - of course not. But if the method is different then it's a different trick, no? I do an Any Card at Any Number effect, but I wouldn't expect Barrie Richardson to feel cheated, because my method (relying on some mental gymnastics, but very little physical dexterity) isn't the same.

I'm not sure I'm getting this across too well. Sorry. How'd you delete a thread?
