My best guess as to why your show didin't do well is because you weren't interacting with the kids a lot. That's vital to a kids show, they have to feel like you need them. If not, they do what they want.

i've got my first kids show in 3 weeks.
its a charity thing for a local brownies or rainbows or something 4 - 8 year old girls.
i've only ever done close up for small groups of adults before so I'm quite nervous about it. I'm the one at parties and family things that always ends up with kids swinging off my sleeves and following me round like a group of ducklings, which is why my partner suggested it, god knows why i agreed to it.

Marvell, Ive got blendo silks, colouring book, spelling test, afghan loops, rabbits everywhere sponges, egg bag and twisty balloon thingys.

i am, but this has been a great excuse to do some shopping. i've spent loads on props and a booklet from the local magic shop and it's only one charity gig. maybe some of the parents might want to book me after and that could pay for it... if I'm not too traumatised.

also it's given me plenty of new stuff to practice. stuff that i would never have thought of buying normally but have been enjoying using none the less.

I'd say a something close to a clown outfit is your best bet. Don't completely sell out by going all the way and doing the rubber nose and big shoes, though. You can get big stripped overalls at costume stores. Put those on over a plain colored t-shirt. Then gel your hair in all kinds of crazy directions. I've seen it, it works.

that's pretty much what i was thinking but I'm loathed to spend much money on an outfit when i've already spent so much on effects. the local charity shops have got nothing suitable in and the clown costume i made for a fancy dress a few years ago has (magically) disappeared, including a pair of doc martins i spent ages decorating.
my mates a trained tailor so i might go to a fabric shop and get him to sew me something up.
