Magic - Almost as good as a bulletproof vest

Postby MagicalJim » Jun 7th, '07, 22:17

I wish to tell you a story of how my cards saved my skin.

The other day I was at the train station waiting to go home, there was no one there besides me and my friend, and four 'ruffians'. Due to my attire, black t-shirt and a pair of baggy jean shorts, along with a pair of converse shoes and soem aviator sun glasses (for the record if this sounds like an emo style I wish to set straight that I am not an emo and usually dress in quite a smart attire, it just happened to be a hot day), these 'ruffians' decided to poke fun at me.
Without being rude or mouthy I shrugged it off 'til one said,
'What are you mate a Mosher?'
without thinking I replied by saying I was in fact a magician, leading them to think I was being a wise ass, and they then surrounded me and my friend.

I then went on to try and clear my name by showing them a card trick, it was nothing fancy, it was a trick I learned from the Crash Course Ellusionist DVD, the 'Card In Hand' trick. This astonished them and they were utterly stunned, which I found quite odd as most people thought the trick was good, but never really reacted much. They asked me to do it again, and not wanting to be attacked agreed, all I actually did was do a DL and then they looked at the real top card, they thought it was the best thing since TV.

They then became quite friendly with me, and once we'd boarded the train I went on to do Jazz Aces, Twisting the Aces, and Gemini Twins. They gave really good reaction which lead me to believe that they might have been on the lower end intelligence.

Still I now never leave the house without a deck of cards, no matter where I'm going.

im no good at card tricks so my story under this heading would be,

some people started screwing with me and so i pulled out a deck of cards and chucked it at the biggest guys head and ran like he11. but thats just me. lol

but seriously i look forward to the day when i can perform like that, however magic in the states is not as cool, and trying to get away with little public demo's isnt as easy IMO. unless your in vegas
