Errr... this post should be in Reviews Requests mate...

As for rope through neck, there's a couple of variations in Nicholas Einhorns "Art Of Magic And Sleight Of Hand" :D

You wont find much better anywhere and it's nothing - a rigmarole with a few bits of paper and lots of spiel. That is Mentalism

Thru The Neck etc

Postby Allen Tipton » Jun 7th, '06, 18:32

:) There's a couple of videos probably now on DVD by Andrew Mayne. Have got one somewhere. Think it was called Shock FX. I remember a pen pushed thru your cheek (no not THAT pen) and making your head vanish. There's a couple of what I call Gruesome magic dvds recently come out. Search the dealers catalogues. Probably your best bet is Keith Bennett in Birmingham. Then there's Keith Hart (Black Hart) up in Scotland for real bizarre effects. What about Gary Kosnitzsky's newly released Cig Up The Nose @ $29:95. You miss the Gross Magic Set at Argos but they are still available at Langley Toys ( info@langleystoys.com)
at £17:99 inclusive. There's sticky brown blobs, snot, bogeys, cockroaches eggs, an eyeball turning into red goo.
Then there's those dreadful, gory knives thru the arm and even one where you penetrate a spectator's skin. Another, advertised, I think in Stan Allen's Magic Mag. June 2006 where you put a length of thread round your throat and tighten it till it 'seems to penetrate into the skin' !! Ugh!
What all this has to do with The Noble Art Of Magic or with Magic Entertainment is beyond me.However, To Each His Own! I'll stick to the 6 Card Repeat, Chinese Sticks, Stamp Album, The Floating Ball etc.

i have saw not yet performed it though but must say it is a sweet effect. So simple, yet so sick  Andrew maynes shock fx dvd is not all that shocking. I was a bit upset with that purchase as some of the effect on it were just stupid gags, but pen thru cheek was ok. Andys gutbuster looks beautifulo tho but hearing mixed reactions but may have to purchase the effect. also try disjointed mate. :)

You're talking about the Saw illusion, right?

There's a review of it over on magicbunny (sorry mods!), apparently it's pretty good.

hey, i have the dvd SAW by sean fields. first off let me just say this. the effect to a spectator is astouding. if you want to freak some people out try this trick. however i have some problems with it. the prop you need ( will not way what although its very cheap) takes a long time to take off and it feels really wierd. also if you do this effect more than once in 2 hours then your neck starts to hurt. i would only do this if none of my other tricks got reactions. still it looks really cool

Sawing Through The Neck

Postby Allen Tipton » Jun 3rd, '07, 11:48

:( Elemental:: Surely you would be better working on WHY your effects don't get the right reaction and put that right first.
Read Strong Magic by Darwin Ortiz and Maximum Entertainment by Ken Weber. Learn where you are going wrong from them. Put their techniques into action and thus save yourself a sore neck. Thus you might work more venues.
Keep Magic as Entertainment not as a freak out!

As a note, he never said his other effects got bad reactions. I think you read what he was saying wrong.

Great FX

Postby Trickyfied » Jun 10th, '07, 20:20

I am sure that I read a review about SAW on this forum but I cant find it now, I bought this on ebay for about £7 and it was worth every penny. Be carefull who you do it in front of as children are likely to get real upset  Great effect and you can get real creative with the gimmick but I would not reccomend repeating it too soon as you risk exposure.
