Magic Status Testing

Postby Michael Kras » Jun 11th, '07, 01:04

Hello,

OK, so I receive a random email from a woman named Eilene Dumfart (yes, that is her real name) asking to purchase my manuscript via my website. I believe she referred to me from my One Man Parade in The Linking Ring, but she also may not have. I can't sell the notes to her if she isn't a magician, so hoe can I test her? Any good questions I can ask for Ms. Dumfart :) to gain access?

Thank you!

I thought you stopped selling them.
If she wants to buy it let her. It's her loss. If you really think your material is so precious, (keep in mind RRTCM is under ten bucks), then you can ask for Eugene's surname, The other name for the French Drop, or Steve Shaw's stage name.

Why can't you sell the "manuscript" to non magicians? If they're paying the price to learn, they should be allowed to.

Currently Reading "House of Mystery" (Abbott, Teller), Tarbell, Everything I can on busking

I won't let laypeople buy them because they would be useless. They do not know what a Thumb Palm, Elmsley Count, Erdnase Change, or Half Pass is.

Thank you for the questions! The Eugene one sounds like a good candidate.

You shouldn't let anyone buy them. Not until they are perfect and they can only enhance your reputation, not damage it. From what I've heard, that's not the case.

And if you are going to sell them (which you shouldn't) then you should sell them to anyone that pays for them. End of.

Surely anyone that has access to linking ring magazine has already proved their status as they would be a member of the IBM?

I don't understand why you would want to sell them at all when you know fine well they aren't up to scratch??

Mike, if I wrote notes like you did, I would personally not sell them to anyone. If, however, I decided I must, I would sell them to whoever was interested. As I understand it, this is your "career" so far and you do what you must to succeed in business.
