I want to do a trick which involves the a pre-arranged deck, but i want the spectator to be able to shuffle the cards first. Anyone have any tips for switching my deck for the mixed up one after they've shuffled it?

Or am I on m own here?

What I usally do is a few tricks with a normal deck (no more than three) and then bring out either a packet trick or a coin trick and two two or three non card tricks. Anything different to cards will do and this gives the opportunity to switch decks without any suspicion. Then, return to whatever you wnat to do with the switched deck.

You can also get a utility called a Switcheroo that supposedly lets you change decks under the nose of the audience although I have no experience of this.

The first part wont really work for what I'm trying to do. But I will look into the switcheroo thing. thanks

The way i do is very forward and staright to the point. Do not be afraid to do this.

Before performance.
Have the pre ordered deck in the left jacket pocket without case, nice and neat.
Have a pen / prediction / the card box / coin / kitchen sink.. infact anything in the right jacket pocket that you may need during the effect. Pen is best usually.

During performance.
Have them shuffle and return the pack to you. Hold in the left hand mechanics grip. tell the spec you need a pen but please can they get it out of your right pocket as you dont want any unfair play. Now this is the ironic bit.. as you say this you swivel your body left (CCW) and ditch the deck so is standing up in the left jacket pocket. As they reach into your pcoket for the pen you simply pick up the other neatly prepared deck... simple.

This is very direct yet covered and my favourite way to pull it off as it is slightly cheeky. Hope this helps..

No, really, on with the trick...." and then casually bring out the switched deck. Use confidence, keep talking to misdirect and you'll get away with it.

that is a very clever idea. Why mask a move if you can make it part of the act? lol sneaky

Also in Revolutionary card magic the is a routine on there where Sankey performs a deck switch using his close up box as cover whilst retrieving an item. Obviously this wont work walk around but worth looking into if otherwise.

I keep my pens in my leg pockets, so I stuff both hands in both at the same time, switch on one side, bring it out then bring the pen out of the other after.

or you could look into dabbling with a deck shell...

or using a notepad or whatever as cover...
