SELOPHANE WRAPPERS

Postby dat8962 » Jun 10th, '07, 17:31

DOes anyone have a technique for removing the wrappers from a deck of Bikes and keeping it in tact?

I've opened two decks and both selophane wrappers have split.

I need to rebox the cards and then re-seal so that they look unopened.

Thanks

Try opening the sealed up fold VERY gently, maybe even running through it with a knife.

Have you tried opening it from the bottom?

Yep and yep

Thanks for the responses.

The best way is to open from the bottom which is what I was trying all along.

The selophane is sealed on boththe bottom AND the side of the bottom. You just can't get the side bits undone so I eventually cut across with a modelling knife and then undid the fold over bits on the bottom. 3rd attempt and 5th attempts lucky as I needed to prep 2 decks.

Once I took the deck out, you have to be carefull opening the lid so that the flap doesn;t drease on the front of the box. Took out the cards and replaced - one with a stacked deck and another with an ID.

I had some new box seals which I used before putting back into the selophane. To finish off, I re-folded the bottom bits of the selophane and glued back down with a Prit stick.

You can't tell them from new

You might want to try steaming open the packages. It should loosen the the folds and the glue. I'm not sure if it would be that effective, but in theory it should work.

and with selophane being plastic based, I'm sure that it will melt :?

What about the effect of the steam on the card box and possibly the cards themselves?

I wouldn't recommend trying this one.

there is a type of plastic you can buy to reseal them. i work at best buy and some guy was buying dvd's taking them home, burning them, and bringing them back. he would use selophane some how with some kit he had to reseal them. they looked brand new. think it was just selophane tube that he put it into and sealed it with a heat gun or somthing. anyways i know it can be done.

Thanks for that - it's amazing the lengths that some people will go to to pirate a few DVD's.

Anyway, it's all sorted now and it was a matter of perseverance

Thanks for the thoughts anyway

For an effect I made up (it has been discussed on here) called Sealed it involved a card being selected, returned to the deck and having the spec imagine it turning face up. It does turn face up, but not in the opened deck. In a frsh new packet, still with the selophane around it.

Put the kettle on, and put the deck over the kettle so it gets steamy. Then place it down and carefully peal it off. Time consuming but it works.

one tip that I was given was to make a tiny pin prick in the top of the wrapper before you take the deck out of the wrapper. It'll make life easier as the hole lets air in and out and stops the wrapper from folding.

I'm purposely using two different coloured decks and will use the magicians force to hand someone the sealed ID. I will then open and use the other deck for a few routines before going into a routine with the ID.

Should be fun

I probably wasn't as clear as I could've been in my post. I'm not suggesting holding the deck right over the teapot, that would be, well, dumb. I think if you somehow keep the deck 4 feet above the spout while the water boils, the steam will be hot enough to open the cellophane, but cool enought to keep it intact and not damage the cards to much.
