working on a new part (video now working)

Postby Invizmed » Jun 12th, '07, 05:28

so i do a little levitation part in one of my acts. this is the act i am putting together to use for my volunteer work at my grandmothers nursing home. basically a bunch of simple effects that i can perform room to room while visiting with the people there.

this part is still a little rough, but i just got a new webcam and really wanted to try it out. im not going to try and do the entire thing, just the final part that i need advise about how to execute better.

this trick is following up a number of floating cards (i use my ghost deck, just seems to fit the part) and some simple animation of different things in the room.

my mime work is a bit off, im trying to fix that part. but i want to know what you think of the concept, and please comment.

(NOTE) sorry it took so long for the video to upload. ill make sure befor i post next time that it is functional.

(NOTE) i figured out why my miming was so off. i never perform with a gas mask on befor.n order to see things i had to do a lot of head movement. thats what screwed it all up. also im not used to trying to keep one eye on my computer screen to make sure the lighting is right and that its still recording.

Um, one question: Why are you wearing a gas mask? I've seen people do this on YouTube where they do magic in various masks and I've been very confused by it. Also: the video is up on YouTube now.

Invis,

If you are serious about floating a small item in an old folks home wearing a gas mask I think you should consider the strength of your fear factor.

You obviously want to scare the sh*t out of them, so I would suggest first effect should be 'Floating the Atom Bomb' and not a little blob.

Follow that with a multitude of flash paper and a devastation of half of the dining room.

Finish off with a reveal, 'I poisoned your water you had with your supper' might be a good one.

If any remain alive, try Electric Touch, it will knack their pacemakers !!

Being as how you are wearing a gas mask, hand out cards as you leave saying, 'My name is Tony Blair'

You are on to a winner and will likely obtain financial backing from the government who want any profitable method to get rid of the old folk who are an increased burdon on current dwindling funds

holy cr*p i about p!ssed my pants laughing at your idea's... no the gas mask is for youtube. i dont want people who i dont know seeing me on there. for some reson it just kinda weirds me out. place that one on the list of bizzare phobias.

though the gas mask in that nursing home would be great, send all those WWII vets into a flashback. nothing like a good old fasion psycotic episode to get the blood pumping.

Can i be the first to say that that is a great trick, haven't seen it done before, well done

*edit* get rid of the gas mask though, reminds me of the freaky character in Dead Mans Shoes (very good UK film)
