Struggling with an effect? Any tips (without giving too much away!) you'd like to share?

I was having difficulty with the glide and the problem for me was that I was holding the deck too close to my palm before I went for the glide. Once I held it further away the move became much easier.

Does anyone actually use the glide with any regularity? I can't remember using it in a single trick.

I use it all the time in an Oil and Water effect. Six cards, three of one suit, 3off another (different colour). Strong effect.

Yes, lots.

The more 'staple' sleights you know, the more spontaneous and creative you can be.

The glide can be used for:

1. Oil and Water
2. Spontaneous 'your card at xxx number' effects
3. Forcing

to name a few.

Designed For Laughter is a great card effect that utilises the Glide and it's in RRTCM.
One of my favourite effects now. I initially passed it by but after a few recommendations on here I tried it with an audience and it went down a treat.

I like that as well. Good sucker trick.
The glide is probably underestimated by most. It's like an easy second deal, but you even show the card before (apparently) dealing it. In the right situation it can be a very powerful sleight

one thing i find helps alot is to hold the pack with both hands whilst causing misdirection from the deck and secretly sliding the bottom card back then.

lazzer, please post an introduction. What you described in the least eloquent way possible is the basic way it's supposed to be done. The current discussion is about the application of the sleight in routines.

Hi...

I realise it's been over a week but I'm posting now :P

I'm much better at the glide now and have performed a couple of tricks from RRTCM that use it. They have gone down pretty well and I'll definitely be using them more often now.

Thanks for all the tips and help guys...

Now...onto the next chapter. :P

Ben.

One of my favourate RRTCM tricks that uses the glide is ' Now you see it '.
They pick a card then shuffle the pack.
You take four cards out and show them 1 by 1 putting them face down on the table.
They think you have messed it up as none of the four cards you show is their card.
You pretend to look confused and continue to do a simple magicians force(equivica) and the last card you turn over is their selected card!

Such a good response just using a glide and a bottom card force at the beginning.
I used Paul Wilson's version from the DVD of RRTCM as it is better than the book.

OK, as this thread has been revitalised I just wanted to use this message to thank seige for his great piece of advice on how to handle the glide. Thank you! I didn't have any major problems doing it, but it felt a bit strange in my hand. Changing the grip and using the pinky for the glide really changed the whole feeling! Now it's something very natural to do.

I have another thing that I'm having a small struggle with: when I draw the cards over the glided card, sometimes I get one or more cards that follow with the one I draw and protrude a bit from the deck. The result is that it can look suspicious for a spec if the next cad I draw isn't the one protruding but the glided. How can that be helped so that the cards stay squared under the deck?

I would suggest using nice new cards.

This way, you can use much less pressure on the 'bottom' card. And subsequently, you get a more accurate pull-out.

Another tip is to try using your index finger of the gripping hand to moderate the front edge of the deck, and even push extra cards back square if needed.
