Out Of This World

Postby Mikey.666 » Jun 13th, '07, 15:23

Anybody care to reccomend a good Out Of This World efect?

I have Cosmos, however, I'm starting to dislike it :? I'm not a fan of the OOTW effect on Penguin either. I jsut think it looks naff.

Anybody got any ideas? Something with a nice kicker perhaps?

Cheers
Mike

My personal favourite is 'Galaxy' by Paul harris. It is your regular OOTW story but the method is simplified and it fools pretty well.
I think it is only in Art OF astounishment though....cant remember which volume

Why are you starting to dislike Cosmos? It's probably the best OOTW effect I've come across.

You know there's not much wrong with the original version, but if you are looking for a great variation, then I would recommend Gordon Bean's version of John Kennedy's "Red & Black" which was published in Genii. (I believe it may have been May 2005)

I shuffle before the trick
Then I let the spec shuffle before the trick.
If you don't belive me try it.

Then get your markers out, four usualy but sometimes if your lucky you can get out just two to start. (and if your clever your sorted)

Blows them away when you remind them they shuffled last. 8)

Oh and pray they don't riffle :D :D :D

I know building blocks has two versions of this effect. One is based on sleights the other verbial suggestion (anchoring) and the second will not always be 100%. The first version I havent got the mechanics down on it but its a nice little version and i think if memorey serves right only uses 6 cards rather then the whole deck.

Ammar also has a version on one of his vids I am not sure wich one but I know he has on one. And Mikey I ve seen cosmos (if thats the one by the guy who did the coin through hand) what is wrong with it? Looked pretty good to me.

I am master of misdirection, look over there.

We are not falling out young Welshy, we are debating, I think farlsy is an idiot he thinks I am one. We are just talking about who is the bigger idiot.

There's a very nice version on Derren Brown's "Devil's Picturebook".

Cosmos, the performance video, is actually very different to what you have to do. I was actually annoyed out how different it really is.

Recently, when performing it, I haven't been getting the "Wows" which I normally get with the effect. It's a feeling of "Oh. The red and blacks seperated, I could see it coming."

Also, I was trying to find something with a nice kicker at the end, instead of just having the cards seperated by colour.

I'm just after something a bit different :)

How about a stack and a false shuffle? You could match colours and ranks, for instance. Or spell out a phone number with a shorter run of cards.

Personally I like to try Jermay's suggestion ideas first with a few of the cards and then go straight into the Derren Brown handling of the traditional effect with a full deck. Simplicity is the key for me: I have the deck shuffled by the spectator and then dealt out into two piles, bish, bash, bosh, and they've separated them perfectly into red and black!

I don't think an effect like this needs a kicker ending, to be honest. With good patter and a clean, logical presentation (I don't use marker cards, etc.) it's a shocker. Although I have occasionally played with the idea of having one card be wrong - and maybe that one card was the selected but unrevealed card from a previous trick, or a card named beforehand by a spectator as their favourite card, or a card we have discussed which is sometimes associated with bad luck... But I don't think it needs it.

Is Derren Browns version available for purchase?

If so what is it called and where?

Cheers

I like Derren Brown's version the best too.

It's available on his Devil's Picturebook DVD.
