Need help finding the right trick..

Postby MeanStreakCP » Jun 12th, '07, 01:34

Hi guys, im new here, im not one for the forums but I have been struggling in finding the right trick for a while and thought someone here might be able to assist me, or point me in the right direction.

I mainly stick to card magic, but I am trying to steer away from that and open up a whole new arsonel for myself. I am trying to find a nice rose effect (other than the floating rose) that involves a real rose. Or if not that then just a really nice romantic trick. My girls birthday is comming up and I wanted to do something nice, shes seen all my card stuff and I wanna really shock her by doing something she will never expect.

Someone told me to check out the rose color bud change, i seen a video for it, is white the only color to change the bud to?

I was also given a nice effect where you take a heart out of tissue paper, rip it and resore it. I kind of figured there has to be more options than just these. If anybody could assist me in this (I dont mean give a secret, but rather tell me where I could buy a nice effect or 2) I would greatly appreciate it.

p.s. sorry if I posted this in the wrong section.

Does it have to be a trick? Can it just be something that you make for her, while you're out on your date, that has meaning to her?

My advice depends on how far you really wish to take this...
  • First comes the script:
You need a heartfealt message to give - write down your feelings.
  • Next, the lazy/cheap man's way:
You take a cocktail napkin and make a rose for her. It's made with your own hands - you took the time to not only script this, but learn how to make a rose out of a paper napkin (you must deliver your heartfelt message whilst folding the rose).
  • Up now: the all outs, kick ass way:
You go to the place where you're taking her and arrange to have special napkins at your table (this isn't the lazy/cheap man's way) that are green on the bottom and red on the top, so that the rose is actually a red rose with a green stem and leaf.

How do you fold the damn thing?

Click here. This site also sells different colored napkins...

Good stuff.

Mike.

There are quite a vew nice little tricks that I do, although mainly for other couples rather than my boyfriend.

A spongeball routine where at the end, the sponges are transformed into lots of little hearts.

Cups and Balls where the final load is with a ring, necklace or some other nice piece of jewellery that you're giving her as a present.

Splash Bottle to produce a bottle of champagne

And a little favourite of my own is Jack Sparrow's Compass, which like the compass from Pirates of the Carribean, will always point to what your heart truely desires. Have a look at Psychic Compass in Karl Fulves Self Working Mental Magic for the method.

There are some nice spongeball and cups and balls routines in Mark Wilson's Complete Course that could be adated for my suggestions.

Hope some of this helps. :D

David Stone has a quick, simple rose production on his fabulous Real Secrets of Magic DVD. Derren Brown has an effect called Zamiel's Rose (i think) on Devil's Picturebook.

Nothing to do with roses, but Daniel Garcia's effect Life (or is it Birth?) on his Loops DVD could be worth looking into. The effect is a bill folds up into a butterfly, the wings flap then it levitates for a second. I believe a member posted a video of his performance of it in the File Sharing forum not too long ago.

Exactly the topic I was looking for:)

I've been looking for a certain trick for some time now.
I think David copperfield performed it.. and many many others probably have..

It's where you make a rose out of a napkin (or flash paper)
and than light it, and it turns into a real rose..
does anybody know the name of this awesome romantic trick:)
and on what DVD is can be found?

Also in the movie "Next" starring Nicolas Cage, Cage performs this trick.. I just love it:D

There are all sorts of things you could do with romantic messages using billets with/without flash paper, check out almost any mentalism book eg. Corinda for basic billet handling. Also, Paul Harris does something (Angel box prediction? Can't remember) where an easily home made gaff card box gives secret messages.

If you're going for a meal, a TT could be used for the production of small (and not overly fragile!) items of jewellery. Going back to the message idea, TTs are also good for personalised fortune cookie messages.

Finally, Mark Jenset has a great trick involving a signed bill appearing in an inflated balloon they've been holding from the start - obviously cash ain't that romantic but this could be any small light gift pretty much (needs to be finger-p*lm*ble), or a slip of napkin with her signature on it. Basic plot would be: give her a heart-shaped balloon, get her to sign something, make it vanish (you could do this with a TT although Jenest doesn't bother) or put it in your wallet to "remind you of her", then patter about her not just being in your wallet but in your heart (awww! *yuck*), get her to shake the balloon - wow, there's something in there - you hold the balloon, she pops it to find the signed slip of paper inside.

How's that?!

The name of the trick escapes me, which is embarrassing because I love it  . It's a lose and find card trick, but you have the spec (I guess your girlfriend) blow a kiss to the deck and on the back of their card is a Hersey's kiss which can be flicked into the specs open hands. If you want to make it a bit more romantic, you could do it with a rose bud.

You can try Floating Rose by Kevin James. Nice effect. But needs little preparation all worth for great reactions.
ITs the same effect performed by David Copperfield.

I am sure she will love it.

Nice idea of Cups and Balls with end load as ring.

All the best. and Do it the magic way.
