Couple Of Routines

Postby Mikey.666 » Jun 15th, '07, 14:31

This monring i was making a note of all the effects I enjoy and people seem to enjoy me performing. I have about 11-12 effects. Mainly cards. Making a note of all my effects has enabled me to list a few things which I think would improve my collection.

Moving on, when making a list of the effects I perform I decided to have a go at making up a couple of routines with them. Keeping in mind the gambling theme. I came up with two. One is a "qucik" routine and one is longer.

First:
Perform The Two Card Monte, explaining it is a game and they have to keep their eye on thier ace. The two red aces turn to black queens. Short snappy and always gets good reactions. Moving on, I then ask if they play cards or gamble at all in their spare time. Depending on the answer I explain that a key skill in gambling is reading your opposition. Then I explain that we're going to perform a little experiment using this theory. I have them shuffle, select a card and return it to the deck. I again show that all cards are shuffled and I have them say a series of words. Red, black, (we'll say it was black) spade club, (it was a club) then high and low. I then take a card from the deck, ask them what their card was and they match.

Finally I felt the urge to move on to the Biddle Trick. I'm sure everybody is familiar with this effect. However, I'm having trouble linking it with the previous effect. :?

Second:
I perform my Three Card Monte routine, which is quite lengthy (5-6 minutes) Giving the spec a poker chip or coin, so they can say where the money card is. Then I move on to a coin routine using the poker chip or coin and the chip or coin ends up under their watch :) This routine may seem shorter then the first one but it is considerably longer due to both effects being quite long.

Well these are two routines so far. I was simply wondering if anybody had any ideas of how to improve them or tell me any bad points about them.

Cheers
Mike

I think the second routine would be the best one, but I think you should trim down the 3-card-monte bit. Also, are you using a specific effect for the poker chip, or just simple vanishes? I think a muscle pass with the poker chip would also be good. After the coin piece, you could then segway into a coin matrix. Those are my thoughts.

The Muscle Pass is something I think I will never be able to do :P
Thanks

I say put some mileage on it.

Try it out with lay people and see what they say. You'll also figure out some quirks you may have overlooked.

Good ideas though.
