A good start is Royal Road to Card Magic, Mark Wilson's Complete Course in Magic, and (if you can afford it) The Tarbell Course in magic. It's actually better to learn sleight of hand and non-gimmicked methods before utilizing gimmicks. Good luck.

P.S. Please avoid text speak (txt spk). You'll only make yourself look ignorant in front of the other TM members.

Currently Reading "House of Mystery" (Abbott, Teller), Tarbell, Everything I can on busking

No one's going to give away secrets. Buy The Royal Road to Card Magic, as SleighylyCrazy says, and a couple of decks of cards. By the end of the summer, if you apply yourself, you'll be a competent card magician.

Or you could just be smart and avoid getting hooked on playing cards and get a more rounded sense of things by getting the Wilson Course, Tarbell Course and/or Now You See it Now You Don't by Bill Tarr... related materials include the Jeff McBride Manipulation series.

REMEMBER: there is a heck of a lot more to magic than playing cards!

Welcome to TM

Do you have any examples of the type or style of magic you want to progress to?

First off - Welcome

Secondly, I totally agree with Craig. Get hold of one of the encyclopedias that provide a whole course in magic.

I can understand that your parents don't want to buy you gimmicks so ask them to buy you books.

Hi and welcome to TM, as has already been mentioned above. Mark Wilson's Complete Course is a great book to get started with and it covers lots of different areas of magic.
