Magic as a living, magic as your life.

Hi guys,

I know this is totally random, and most likely has been covered, and finally yes I do where the search function is (it's that little magnifying glass at the top which is covered in dust right?).

It occured to me that this forum really does have very distinguised people along with the normal folk. What I always wondered was how you decided to let everything go and take the plunge into Pro/Semi Pro/Magic shop owners/Magic inventors? It's quite apparent that the best are one of the fore-mentioned types, but at any point did you find it too tough, or too daunting? It's just that I've come to a realisation that magic to me will always be secondary in my life, something I do for fun, to push myself and to entertain others. I could never give up my other dreams to attain that level. That old cliche that magicians are most likely very sad people who needed to prove something to fool others, really vexes me. The members of this forum, be they Pro or not- are amazing, if not scary at times with scary Mod mode on.

Everytime I log in it amazes me to see the different magicians who post on their work, how people get gigs and advance their performances. It seems beyond mere dedication and necessity that you practice magic. Is there something more fundemental to it that drives you?

Anywho sorry for this amazingly off topic discussion. I just needed a way to procrastinate from my last exam.

Many thanks everybody

beyond mere dedication and necessity, I think all you really need is a love for the art. Like anything else, be it playing an instrument, or taking up a sport, or even something like writing, if you enjoy practicing, then you are going to get better at it, and if it thrills you when you do get better, then you just carry on. Basically enjoy it, all aspects of it

That's my simplified take on it anyway, if it makes any sense.

The reaction I get from the specs is just the most amazing thing for me. I've experienced too much wonder and awe, and been able to perform in too many amazing places, to give up on magic now. Aside from my kids, it really is my life.

And of course, the money is nice too. But it's the specs that drive it on for me, and inspire me to always deliver a better performance than last time.
