Mine was the svengali deck and a ball & vase trick from a set (I was thinking about buying the ball and vase again for the memories).

Also the four robbers in the tower block. Recently I taught myself a method of this using the multiple shift. It gets great/confused reactions from people who have just showed you the popular method

Can anybody please help me? I'm having terrible problems controlling my streetmagic- I can't walk down a street without turning into a pub.

If you consider 19 young then yes.

Nah I was thinking maybe a lot of you started between 6-12 years old?

I'm quite intrigued by the Svengali deck...I might have a read up on this.

Can you stop trying to jump down his throat, your post was completley unrelated to magic and just trying to argue and show someone up.

I first started with a Marvins Magic set that a family friend had given me. I liked it, and striving for more I went and bought a more expensive set from them. I think the first effect I learnt well was the Dynamic coins from them.

The first card trick I learnt was the one where you have a spectator pick a card and then it magically becomes the only turned over card in the deck. I'm sure most of you know how to do that one.

Basically it was a card prediction trick that required 2 people and was quite cool when your a seven year old.

1 What was the first trick you ever tried? What in particular made you choose this trick?

That's hard to answer...It was a long, long time ago. One of my very first, though, was the "Magic Cube." It came in a magic kit that I got for Christmas (which is why I chose it!).

2. What was the first trick you managed to perfect properly? Who did you perform it to and what was their reaction?

This depends on what you mean by "properly perfected." If you mean able to do the trick without being caught or screwing up, then I'll say the "Magic Cube" again. This is what got me hooked on magic, because I showed it to my Uncle Joe something like 6 times in a row while he tried his very best to figure it out. I think that he was a bit begrudging over the idea that a 6 year old could fool him over and over.

3. Finally what was the first magic book you owned? Was it a present or did you choose it yourself? If so why this particular book?

Oddly, my first book of magic was, "The First Book of Magic" (Stoddard). It was in my school library, which is why I chose it.

Mike.
