Alternitive Card Tricks

Postby Kenneth » Jun 28th, '07, 00:19

Hi!

First off, let me say I'm mostly a card magician, i enjoy working with cards more than coins etc..

...But is anyone else sick of the pattern so many card tricks follow? "Pick a card, turns up somewhere unexpectedly"
A magician friend of mine let me watch his Mercury Aces DVD, I enjoy the idea of the trick, but it is so angle sensitive that its very hard to show...

Anyone know any alternative tricks?

Twisting the Aces or a good Torn and Restored Card are good.

Opening the Magic Doors

Postby Amanda Angeli » Jun 28th, '07, 00:28

Hello Kenneth,

You know what I love to do. And yes, I love cards. Look at any branch of magic such as Illusions, Bizarre, Mentalism, Escape Artistry, Stage Pickpocket, any of it and find a trick, stunt, or illusion that you like that has absolutely nothing to do with cards. Then, figure out for yourself how you could transform what you just saw into a card trick. If is a levitating girl, then do a levitating card trick. If it is a rope escape, then tie a card up and have it untie. If it is an audience member picking a card and then you pickpocket it right out of their hands, well, then there is that.

So let your imagine dance and see magic wherever you are in whatever you are doing. Then, your card magic will go to new heights only dreamed of by those before you.

And how do you get to this level of imagination? Why through Mentalism, of course.

Love,

Amanda Angeli

twisting the aces is a good one, been practicing it for a couple of hours tonight, and for about the past fortnight or so and really loving it, it's very different to the normal pick a card tricks. And it's always a good follow up to an impressive ace production

Some fantastic effects are the works of Lee Asher. Most do not require selected cards and they are very visual. Lee is also a great guy! Mention me, get 50% off your purchase :). I kid, of course. But he IS a regular at our magic camp.

Hope this helps!

It's in Dai Vernon's "More Inner Secrets of Card Magic".

Also, try Sankey's Underground Jam for a super visual one by Eric Leclerc. Reviewed just now by me here: http://www.talkmagic.co.uk/ftopic19586.php

Paul Harris should soove your problem.

How does "twist a deck so all the cards are half face-up and half face down. Let astonishment sink in before twisting it back to normal" sound to you?

Really, PH stuff is a great investment.

Currently Reading "House of Mystery" (Abbott, Teller), Tarbell, Everything I can on busking

Jumping Gemini is maybe my favorite card trick, or The Revolver-
both nice and simple.
