I saw this trick done on ellusionist and it seems like a pretty good effect, anyone have it? What do you think?

Gracias,

It is good, but there is an unsightly giveaway at the wrong angles. Richard Sanders has an effect (published long before Mercury) called Hardcore Packet, which is on the Sankey-Sanders Sessions DVD Volume 1.

For the money, there are a LOT more things you should consider.

The effect is one that's been done to death. The plot of twisting the aces has a ton of variations and many are much better than Mercury. The main sleight has been taught elsewhere. The other sources have more routine ideas than Mercury. One of the handlings leaves you dirty and breaks the "too perfect" rule. The other handling requires unnecessary movements and is just mediocre. It's taught well, but simply isn't worth the money.

[Edit] you don't need a trick deck, but it does end dirty.

In what ways does it end dirty? The one version allows you to do the aces, have them turn over one at a time, change into kings, which are handed out for inspection. The deck is spread and the aces are face up in the centre. Sounds pretty clean to me.

Well, I guess I should have said it starts dirty. Having (I hope this isn't exposure) duplicates in the spec's hand is unappealing to me. My main point was that it wasn't worth the money, IMO.

Asher twist is a better fooler, as Harry Lorayne would say.

Mercury is VERY angle-sensitive and, whilst it's cleaner than - say, NFW - I'd prefer something gaffed over Mercury any day of the week.

If you're going to buy it, go for the Ellusionist Dowload version, rather than the DVD - at least, that way, you'll not have paid top-whack for something you may end up disappointed with.

That's an under statement if ever I saw one

I agree. There are much better things to buy with your money.

It's a dead giveaway... but if you have a young audience or are in a bar (or any other dim lit places) it's a great trick to perform... I dont perform it with lots of people around, and when I do perform it I use Tally-Ho viper decks, the black edge on black is harder to see than white on white shadow...

I think in the right situation it's an astonishing card trick.. however if you dont have double cards the sleight at the end is very hard...
