New close-up magazine/fanzine - looking for contributions.

Postby Kevin Courtney » Jun 27th, '07, 21:36

Hi everyone, my first post!

I've decided to put together a new closeup magazine (or more precisely a closeup "fanzine", as I will be producing it myself) containing mostly tricks, but also some reviews and possibly a regular column. I'll hopefully be producing it once a month (depending on time constraints), and as long as the mailing list of subscribers is low enough, it will be free of charge. My inspiration comes from the great "Pabular" magazine, that sadly is no longer being published.

There are so many people here on Talk Magic with bucket loads of experience and ideas who never get to see their stuff recognised or in print somewhere. Therefore I'm also looking for people to contribute to the fanzine i.e an effect or review to help flesh it out. I'm not at all expecting people to divulge their "top secret effect", just a little something here and there, and idea perhaps, that at least could be printed in the magazine that would otherwise not get printed elsewhere.

If you would like to get involved, contribute an effect or a review to the magazine (the success of it does involve regular contributions from the magic community!), then drop me a line at kjcourtney@googlemail.com and I'll get in touch. Also if you would like to be added to the mailing list then also get in touch. Depending on how many people are interested I'll have an idea of how feasible this is going to be.

All the best,

Kevin Courtney

magicdiscoman,

You are correct! You don't know anthing about me so let me give you a little info. I've been studying magic for about 9 years now, so have quite an in depth knowledge of the field, particularly in cards, which is, like so many others, my speciality. Hope this helps.

Regards,

Kevin Courtney

Can I ask about exposure issues?

If this is a freebie (at least initially), how will you ensure subscribers aren't just after free access to various secrets?

That helps no end

Let me just pm you with about 20 free tricks that I paid good money for and you can just have them!! for free!! and share them with anyone!!

And Michael.. why are you so willing to just blurt out secrets to someone who you know nothing about.. hold back a second.. breathe.. maybe ask a question or two..

Kevin.. anyone with pack of cards can say they are interested in magic.. so why should we not think that you are just after a collection of material for you to steal.. or to pass on to someone else...

saying you have been doing magic for 9 years and specialize in cards says NOTHING about ANYTHING

at least we have some background but as we have had a few people wanting to start up magazines and dvd / media compilatins that whent no ware when it came down to the copyright issues and other publication problems we are understandably cautiose (sp).
if your genuine then providing a site with samples of your magazine, for example a mock up of a cover and or samples of the style of pages you may use would be a good start, ther are plenty of free sites avalable for you to post your ideas on and some idea of your experience with publication would certainly be an advantage, if you intend to run it off, of ms publisher or such like and have no experience of magazine /fanzine publishing then ther are people on here that may help you your idea, if you can convince them you are genuinely interested in producing a product.
