Fair enough - I've removed them.

It's hard to give more of a warning than posting in capitals "DISTURBING PICTURES" but I acknowledge that there will be unsupervised kids around.

I didn't see the one posted, but it sounds like an old Royal Navy photo, showing someone who wore a ring when working with ropes. Rope pulls out and takes his skin with him.

New recruits are still showed that pic at HMS Raleigh during basic training

Thank you Sir

You're welcome

Nothing against you

I'll sleep better tonight knowing that :?

just the photos were getting to me

At last, something has broken through

and many others here

Another slight exaggeration?

There was a valid point made by a number of people about the grizzly images and that there were younger viewers on the forum which was also valid, you being one of those younger members. Therefore, as the poster I thought it was right to remove them as the intention was not to offend but to in some way to look at something from a different perspective. However, I'm sure that the rest of the members that commented made their point without wishing you to also speak on their behalf  .

It was those other points of view that concerned me, hence the removal and this post should just die now.

Sadly, without the pictures, there is little to talk about. The pictures themselves were the conversation.

My dad (he's close to 80 years old) quit wearing his wedding ring because of similar circumstances. While he caught his ring on a machine, it didn't do the damage that the pictures depicted. But, it did rip his finger up pretty righteously.

Depending on your job, rings can be a real liability.

About 10 years back, a woman here in the states got her hair caught in a lathe and it scalped her. It completely took the scalp off of her head, leaving the skull wide open and showing. Pretty nasty stuff.

I'm a big fan of rotten.com, but the problem is that when it comes to hands, I'm a bit more thin skinned than usual. Basically, I think, it's because I am a magician. So, to see such a thing and considering how that equates to what that would do to my carreer, I am a bit more empathatic than, say, losing a leg (which would honestly have little effect on me at all).

I will admit, though, that Demitri's comment has made me spew beer on my computer screen twice this day (he already got me once in the Kras thread, here in the Dove's Head).

I guess that the decision to actually pull off the full skin of the finger was more efficient than simply cutting the ring out. I honestly did give that idea consideration. Judging from the pictures, the ring must have been embedded into the skin too far for a cutting procedure, so they just skinned the finger to remove the ring.

I'm now interested in whether or not they could replace the skin over the top of the bones and what the ramifications were to the useage of that finger afterwards...

Damn.

Mike.

Hmm, I've seen these picture (even though they are off the thread)...
I dont think I'll ever wear a ring, I'll just have my wedding band tattoo'd on. That'll keep this from happeneing.

Luckily, i've spent plenty of time on 4chan, im pretty immune to the internet.

Many moons ago as a fresh faced 16 year old I started my first job in a steel tube mill and during the first week had to go on a safety training course to learn about lifting properly, dangers of machinery etc. With no apologies or warnings whatsoever, we were shown a film with images of people who had ignored the safety warnings etc and had fingers torn off, hair and scalp ripped off etc. It was gory but very effective and no further lectures were necessary.

If they did that today some idiot would probably complain that it frightened them.

Spoilsport!

Mind you, I'm one of those people who think that gore in films should be inversely proportional to the rating. If it's a PG, for instance, you should have to show kids what really happens when someone empties an Uzi into a body.

Nasty fings, yer actual guns.

Oh they wouldn't be allowed today, fake blood and gore in films and virtual gore in games etc is OK but not the real thing, not as a very effective warning to others. The poor loves might lose a bit of sleep rather than their fingers, hands etc.

I used to wear quite a few rings, but only wear my engagement ring now. Although I have never had anything quite that bad happen, I did have once accident that made my mind up about wearing them.
As some of you know, I work in a school. I was on the mike between acts at a school production. As one act was on stage I was backstage, but didnt realise that the act had finished. In a rush to get on stage, I legged it through the door, the door handle got stuck between my ring and finger, and I yanked it at full speed. It didn't do anything as bad as them pics, but it did pull my finger out of socket for a few seconds, and pull a good chunk of skin/flesh up my finger. Anyone looking closely while I was on stage would have seen a trickle of blood oozing down my hand.
Since then all of my rings, bar one, have been put away.
