Double Duking, ouch that takes practice! I'm still working on it!

As for sleight of hand magic, well I like some of the stuff from Ray Kosby's collection. Hard to do but worth the practice I think.

Chicago Opener.

I do it all the time, it's easy, and fun to do, but gets knockout responses from people.

Deal Me In

Postby Amanda Angeli » Jul 1st, '07, 17:09

Hello Boys,

I'm glad that some of you are knowledgeable about my favorite, how fun. I haven't heard it called a Chicago Opener but that makes sense and I love it!!!

Just as with any card work, it takes practice for it is oh so much more than simply being able to do it, which is hard enough on the green, so yes I agree Left Eye, it is a challenge.

The thing about it that is so important is knowing exactly when to use it. Realistically, if someone were a knight of the felt, you'd only play it once a night, twice at the absolute most and then only under extraordinary circumstances. So the positioning of the timing is crucial for maximum gain without drawing attention.

When you might use it twice, or even several times in a row is when you have some small players taking space and it's time for you to lure in the money.

In my game of Five Card Draw, three 3's wins just as well as three Aces only nobody notices. That, to me, is art.

Oh, and Left Eye, a big hug to you. I try to buy as many books on the art of cardsharping as I can, I love the art so, and my collection goes back to the 1840's, yet I haven't heard of Ray Kosby so I am so very excited to find out more. Thank you, thank you, thank you so much for sharing. I'm so excited.

Love,

Amanda Angeli

Nah, that's the name of a different trick altogether. I wasn't adding to the previous comments.

Chicago Opener (also called Red Hot Momma) is a fantastic effect by Frank Everharf. (Not a gambling routine.)

I use a card with an 'X' on the back instead of a contrasting backed card though.

Cards, Dames, and Tommy Guns

Hello Majortom,

I see. Thanks. Silly me.

Thinking about it though, goodness, the name Chicago Opener would certainly fit that particular gambling move and it would be totally neat if that was a name for it. Chicago, after all, was a wild town and it seems like such a move would fit in there in say the Roaring Twenties and the times of gangland mafia and such.

Your trick sounds fun.

Love,

Amanda Angeli

Triumph

My favourite card trick has to be Dai Vernon's classical ' Triumph '.

An eternal trick.

Cheers.
