Scorpion cups

Postby Yorkshire Pudding » Jun 30th, '07, 13:50

That's 'cups', not C.U.P.S. by the way...

Has anyone found a good UK supplier of suitable paper cups to use with the Outlaw Scorpion? I'm using small(ish) polystyrene ones at the moment which are OK but could be better.

The closest I can find with a Google is these:
http://www.cupcompany.com/acatalog/Espresso_Cups.html
they're 4oz so a bit bigger than the 3oz ones Rick supplies but not too far out. Trouble is I'd have to buy 3000!

Anyone found anything better?

I've been having the same problem and have had to settle, as you have, to polystyrene cups.
It looks like the UK doesn't like ickle paper cups. I know in one of the scorpion threads Tom Lauten mentioned he may have found a uk supplier but haven't heard anything since.

Wilkinsons and Poundstretcher stores, as well as the 'It's a pound' type shops are selling disposable cups etc for the Summer picnic trade and also for children's birthday parties. Not sure how suitable they'd be for Scorpion but you'd only have to buy a small quantity for a quid or so to try them out.

Good plan but they tend to only stock the bigger (7-8oz plus) cups. It's the teeny 3oz ones that are ideal... thanks for the thought though.

When I get back from my hols I might buy a case of the 4oz cups. If I do, I'll offer batches of 300 for sale at a non profit making price (probably around a tenner). No problem if nobody wanted them, I'd just have to get mightily used to drinking espresso!

Go to Toys'R'Us

They are your ideal cup-stop.

Look in the party goods section.

They also do clear plastic ones, but I find that these give the game away somewhat.

Thanks... I'll give it a try! (Toys'R'Us I mean... not the clear cups!).

you could ask in a coffee shop, if they do those tiny take away espresso cups. or are they too small? tell them it's free advertising for the cafe and they may give you them for free.

If they are the same plastic that most white plastic cups are made from the scorpion can be seen through them in bright conditions

Yup - go with the little polystyrene ones bud; it's the best I think we're gonna get in this country.

Oddly, I couldn't even find any bulk supplies of 'proper' dixie cups on eBay.com - how weird is that?

The ones in Poundstretcher are the 20cl capacity, plastic are 25 for 50p and the polystyrene ones 50 for £1.00 (or 100 for £1.79!). They may be a little tall, height is about twice the diameter of the open end - I didn't have a ruler at the time I saw them, sorry!

PS How about the little ones used in Chip shops for mushy peas, curry sauce etc?

That's what I'm using, polystyrene ones bought from the local cash & carry. They work fine & can make a mighty 'POP' when you smack them! I still think I'd prefer the teeny paper ones though.

On this basis, the online and real Magic Shops will need to add a catering supplies section!

You guys think this is difficult to source?

I.D and myself have been scrabbling about for the past week, trying to find UK suppliers of live Ladybirds...

...We've finally decided we're probably going to breed them ourselves

You're finding it hard to get hold of ladybirds?
My gardens full of them. There's some kind of mini plague this year.
