Magical Observation tests

Postby cymru1991 » Jul 2nd, '07, 22:32

Hi.
Could you please take a look at this youtube video of mine and tell me what you think? I am thinking of incorporating them into a routine of mine as effects in between the more elaborate/complicated tricks. Particularly the "wrong/wrong again" effect. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=J2xTkdRtwaU

Thanks again

It depends who you're performing to, whether you'd get away with them 2 "tricks" or not  .
I don't want to sound harsh, but unless your spec is a 100% bona fide layperson (if you catch my drift  ), then I think you're gonna get rumbled quite easily.

Soz for being a lil' harsh, but this is just my own personal opinion - other people may disagree :? .

EDIT: Just got my missus to watch the vid:
She knows next to nothing about card tricks.
It took her 2 or 3 watches to suss the two fours trick and the wrong card trick she sussed out straight away. Sorry, but if my missus can suss them that quickly ..... well, enough said really :? .

QUESTION:
If we can sue McDonalds for making us fat and cigarette companies for giving us cancer; why can't we sue Smirnoff for all the ugly gits we've sh*gged ??

Thanks for your observations moonbeam. Harsh or not, the truth is always better than a lie. The only way that I will ever improve is through constructive criticism, and I thank you for being honest. I may now re-think my initial idea of including these in my routine!! I include one more effect at the end of this post for you to watch. Please tell me what you think!

PS This effect is in silent as the speaker/microphone on my camera is broken.

This was much better  .

I'm fairly sure plenty of magicians would suss this out, but seeing how (like myself) you'll prob be peforming to laypeople most of the time - then I'd go ahead and use this if I was you 8) .

Regarding the cards to blanks and the wrong and wrong again cards:

This depends strongly on your application. If you were to do one or the other of these in a comical segue to your next card effect, they may just play well. This will come down to your presentation and how well you embed them into a routine. But, they could be workable (not one after the other, though).

I tend to agree with moonbeam's observations, but I firmly believe that the application of any given trick will decide whether it is worthwhile or garbage.

An attempt to do the cards to blanks, as you have it (as a stand alone piece), would be a recipe for failure. However, if you carefully controlled those cards and immediately took out the two cards following your opening trick then showed this, it might just play. After making them blanks, put them in your pocket and continue on (since they are now blank, they are useless, so you might as well pocket them...). Again, though, this will come down to your personality and your presentation.

Personality, presentation and routining are the key as to whether or not you can get away with doing the tricks in your first link.

Mike.

thing is, you're not going to repeatedly show a trick to someone now are you? so if someone is fooled by it first time, that's all you need!
we all watch ambitious card routines going "yeah yeah, DL, pass, topchange..." along with the moves on screen and are not usually overly impressed, but think about the first time you saw it performed, it was amazing.

if you put some kind of faux-hypnotism thing into the trick and perhaps lost the "wrong, wrong again" bit i think it could be quite strong.
