How to do this simple trick...

Postby JAlexBrown » Jul 2nd, '07, 02:39

I saw a trick that I assumed was pretty simple. I do not know if I will get bashed for asking this, or asking this in this particular board, but here goes. Also, by the way, I am not sure if this can be answered, because I'm not sure if the trick is trademarked to someone or not.

On Mindfreak (I know most people here aren't fans of Criss Angel, and I'm sorry for bringing it up), he has a trick where he raises a towel and one leg is gone. Not even magic. Once again, and the other leg's gone. Still no magic. Then...he raises the towel and both legs are gone. How can this trick be done? If it requires a device, can the device be handmade or is it too complex to make myself. I am a beginning magician and I really liked that trick.

Thanks for any help,
JAlexBrown

To be honest, if you're keen to get started in magic you're much better off getting yourself a couple of decent beginners books and learning the basics rather than chasing down gimmicky tricks that will cost you a fortune. :D

There is an effect called Bisection by Andrew Mayne.. it sounds similar but in Bisection.. it is the top half of your body that dissapears.. although Im sure it can be adapted to the effect described above..

the setup isnt that complex but would require purchasing additional material. To be honest, I dont think the final effect is worth it..

No to mention... with the addition of stooges and camerawork, sure Angels version looks ' way cool ' .

I have been informed that this type of thread is not acceptable, and I apologize for anyone I may have offended with this thread. I an not a spammer, or I at least am not trying to be, so please give me a bit of slack on this one. It was not my intention to step outside my boundaries as a member of this forum. It was a simple question that I thought would have a simple answer. Since, however, this question is not in compliance with the rules of this forum, I hope I can be forgiven for my mistake.

This is a real effect, I have seen it two other times. But I dont know the name.

You people jump to conclusions of camera effects too fast.

No worries, a lot of newcomers make the same mistakes but only a few are decent enough to apologise like you did. Welcome to TM :D !

Let's start this thread off again

The advice given by our Lady of Mystery is what you should be following. The effects that Mr. Angel performs are usually very expensive with elaborate set ups and can't be performed on the fly (I did say usually  )

As a beginner there are a number of threads to check out that will advise you where to begin your studies and then you can post for help and advice if you need to.

However, be aware that there are very few questions that haven't already been asked so do try to check out the support and tips part of the forum first.

Good luck
