Postby Marcus » Jul 3rd, '07, 19:29

i want to record some of my magic and many many other things and am looking to buy myself a digital camcorder.

what are good stores to look at, and does anyone know any specific things that i should look for in a camcorded?

buy one that works!! :D

i think the biggest factor I would go for is shock reduction something or other... and something that helps maintain a steady picture.. and an autofocus..

oh.. and something fairly cheap too.. i dont waste money *cough*

You can het some bargains these days from outlets such as Empire Direct (eee.empiredirect.co.uk).

I would recommend buying one with a firewire port on the camera, assuming that you have a firewire on your PC or laptop? Most newer PC's come with these built in but it's worth checking or you can get a firewire card for around £15 online.

we bought a sony handycam and it's c*** (not the best), poor quality, poor software, poor everything. it takes about 47 years to download 2 min of video and the software that comes with it will only let you burn to DVD if you've got a sony computer.
i would never buy a sony again.

I've got a Sony digital camcorder and have had it for about 5 years now and it's been great - no problems at all. I download and upload video to the PC via the firewire (hence my recommendation) and I use Windows Movie Maker rather than the bundled software.

I don't have a Sony PC and it's never been an issue. The secret is to shop around and ask as many questions as you can think of and if you get a chance, ask for a demo.

Marcus - if you're in the UK, next time that you're in Asda or Tesco check out the back pages of either T3 or Stuff magazines and you'll see the ratings, prices etc. on the latest camcorders.

Infact, check out here:

Try eBay. You can get some bargains there.
And if Walmart is like ASDA, you may be able to get one there.
