This looks like fun.

Click on The Red Carpet.

Seems simple and tidy. I also like the comedy slant and the reveal idea...seems like a crowd pleaser! Interested to hear from anyone who gets a copy.

The jumpy shots and changes from colour to black and white were getting very irritating until he put the bag on his head, then it seemed to be more watchable and fun! Not hard to figure out what the ending might be and, if it comes with internationally, or at least UK, known celebs and photos, it could be a winner.

I agree...a bit on the "pro-price" side but nice to see a real-world, turn key and workable routine out there for fun mentalism...soooooo tempted.

I think it is clear how it works and what the ending is. but it is nethertheless a very nice very well presented effect.

It could be made up yourself, but for the props, (book, bag and the obvious thing at the end) it is worth buying. I wonder if it gives the possibility of alternate endings?

How much was it? I couldnt find a price

It is pretty clear to me as well but I think (in a way) that's a good thing. I like that there are products out there that are simple but of good concept and ready for performers to just pick up and get on with...having said that, these are usually the routines that performers screw up because they think it is so simple that they don't work with it and practice long enough. These people usually end up in rather a tragic "crash-and-burn" scenario.

Of course, we could be wrong and the reveal is something quite different! As for cost, the value there would be in the idea and the performance - not sure about 8 minute's worth of script as it would need to be tailored to each performer but if the cost is reasonable then it should sell. If it's pricey then it will be liable to be just copied by those with the appropriate props and a decent printer for the photos etc. I very much like the comedy element of the performer looking stupid with a cloth bag on his head getting it wrong - very levelling and a great set up for a nice smartypants finish.

I agree with Bananafish....this would be pretty easy to make up to suit your own list of 'celebs': thugs, gangsters, notorious politicians ('I am not a croook'), etc.

Price anyone?

Hello all:

Thank you everyone for your comments and questions on my new effect, “The Red Carpet”. I’ve been getting some great phone calls and emails on and it is so nice to see that my efforts are rewarded.

Let me first of all say that I’m so excited about this new trick. It has literally been YEARS in the making, and is the first in our “Jason Palter Presents” items! Ten years ago Ari Soroka, the creator of the original routine, gave me permission to perform this. He actually came up with the idea and routine in 1983; long before I even met him. When he originally presented it at the IBM Ring 17 in Toronto, Canada in 1985, the effect brought the house down! It caused such notables as Sid Lorraine, Howard Lyons, Norm Houghton and Bruce Posgate to give Ari a standing ovation! I have been using it to close most of my shows and it never fails to get a killer reaction. The comedy and routine are fantastic and the smash ending just throws the crowd for such a loop, because they think that you really blew it and made a mistake! Ari finally gave me permission to release it. So I took his trick and built on the original idea and presentation, enhanced parts of it to make it even more marketable, and changed the name. "The Red Carpet" was born!

You receive EVERYTHING that you need to perform this trick, right out of the box. And for those of you who are familiar with my other tricks, "Third Degree Burn" and "Divine Time", the items included with "The Red Carpet" are the same level of quality that you've come to expect from our products.

If you were to make just one of “The Red Carpet” tricks with the high level quality props that are included, it would cost you over $1200.00—I know, because that’s what I paid for my latest prototype! For instance the most expensive part is the actual sketchbook. As you see from the video, part of the routine involves talking about the fact that this is a book of sketches. I actually hired an artist who hand-drew each of these, and they are royalty-free (they also include their names written beside them in the book). There are 39 different celebrities and characters in the sketchbook. They are icons from around the world, and it just so happened that the woman in the video happened to pick two US and Canadian people (Wayne Gretzky by the way is one of the greatest ice hockey players ever). If you would like the list, please email me or send a PM and I'd be happy to send them to you, but as I say the people are from around the world.

In addition, even if you did make it up, you still wouldn’t have the full 8-minute long audience-tested comedy script and routine that comes in the package. So when you combine that with the fact that you also get a performance DVD, I think that it is well priced, good value, and will be perfect for professionals and even the hobbyists. Then again, I am of course a little biased! lol They are also packaged in a metal film-reel can from the movies (very cool!).

I’m expecting these to ship approximately in mid July at the latest, and the retail price is $195.00 US. I also just wanted to let everyone know that "The Red Carpet" is available for pre-order from our site. But the best part is that those of you who pre-order from us will receive FREE shipping and handling to anywhere in the world! Depending on where you are located, you could save $30.00 - $60.00!

Sorry for the long post! If you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you for your time.

No need to apologise Jason, keep 'em coming!

For a cabaret/club worker the price is indeed reasonable and high enough to deter the casual enquirer who probably wouldn't do the routine full justice. As long as most of the faces are known it should transfer for use in the UK very easily. I still chuckle at the sight of the guy with the bag on his head - utterly insane!

Hello all:

Thanks Mandrake! Your thoughts are one of the key reasons why the trick is priced a little higher (the other reason is because the items included are rather expensive to produce). I heard literally the same comments regarding the price from a both a pro and a hobbyist that contacted me: "One hundred and nintey-five dollars for 8 minutes in my show?! That's a no-brainer and well worth the price!"

I'm glad you enjoyed the video! I should tell you that the guy who is performing---the same one with the bag on his head at the end---is me! I do all my own my stunt work (lol!), and if you watch the promo videos for my other tricks, you'll see that I also appear in them. I'm not only a creator, but I'm also a full-time professional perfomer and actor. I find that customers like to see the actual inventor demonstrating his/her trick in the promo video.

Anyhow, if there are any other questions or you'd like ordering information, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you for your time.

Best regards,

The Red Carpet

Postby Jason Palter » Jul 5th, '07, 03:38

Hello all:

Happy 4th of July to our American friends!

I just wanted to let everyone know some great news: We are supposed to be receiving our first shipment of “The Red Carpet” earlier than expected! If everything goes as planned over the next couple of days, “The Red Carpet” will in fact be shipping on Monday, July 9. I wanted to let everyone know that for a limited time you can still pre-order from our site, and Paltergeist Unlimited will take care of the shipping to anywhere in the world. However, this pre-order special will end at 12:00 midnight EST (Eastern Standard Time) on Sunday, July 8. After that the product will obviously no longer be pre-order because it will be in stock, and therefore the normal shipping rates will apply.

I will keep you up to date, but so far everything looks like we are ahead of schedule! I also wanted to thank everyone for the continued support. As always if you have any questions or concerns about “The Red Carpet” or any of our other products, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you for your time.

Best regards,

Hello all:

They’re heeeeeere!!! Now for those of you paying attention, you’ll get the gag: (a) I’m telling you that “The Red Carpet” has arrived and am doing so by imitating the little girl from the movie “Poltergeist”. But more to the point (b) My company “Paltergeist” is a play on my last name (Palter) plus the movie “Poltergeist”!......Okay it’s corny, but makes for one heck of a good opening paragraph! lol

So it is now official: “The Red Carpet” is now in stock and will be shipping on Monday, July 9!

In addition, our pre-order special (we take care of the shipping to anywhere in the world) ends at 12:00 midnight EST (Eastern Standard Time) on Sunday, July 8. After that the product will obviously no longer be pre-order because it is in stock; therefore the normal shipping rates will apply.

Again, if you have any questions or concerns about “The Red Carpet” or any of our other products, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you for your time.

Mine arrived this morning - it only took 3 days to get here too.

First glance shows the material to be very good quality. Will be posting a review soon as there doesn't seem to be one.

Hello all:

I just posted this in another thread and wanted to make sure that I posted it here as well.

It has recently come to my attention that I might be losing sales to magicians outside of North America who are potentially thinking of purchasing "The Red Carpet". This is because these customers may possibly be under the impression that the celebrities/characters in the supplied sketchbook book (and the revealed character) are only recognizable in North America. On the one hand, I can't really can't blame anyone for possibly thinking this, because the images that are shown by the spectator in the demo video are only a few celebrities from the USA (of course that's just how the routine happened to go on that day at the event where the video was shot).

So I wanted to make sure that everyone knew that the 39 royalty-free images in the sketchbook were specifically chosen for the trick, so that they would be recognized by almost anyone from around the world. Here is just a sampling of just SOME of the celebrities that you will find in the book: Albert Einstein, Queen Elizabeth, Elton John, Mick Jagger, Arnold Schwarchenegger, Superman, Mickey Mouse, Darth Vader, Bruce Lee, John Lennon, Nelson Mandela, Madonna, Princess Diana, Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe, Tom Cruise and Gandhi. In addition, you can be rest assured that an audience of any age will have no doubt in their mind not only who the revealed icon is, but also that you look exactly like them when the red fabric bag is removed. The description of the trick on my site (and on the sites of dealers who carry the trick) has been updated to reflect this information.

Of course, the the 3 additional characters that are revealed in "The Bonus Feature" for "The Red Carpet" are also very easily recognizable around the globe as well.

As I said, I just wanted to ensure that I cleared up any possible confusion. If anyone has any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you for your time.
