Coin in hand...

Postby HenryHoudini » Jun 26th, '07, 18:50

My friend once saw a trick (or so he says) where a woman took his coin, and pushed it into her hand, and there was a bump where it should have been. Has anyone heard of this effect? Does it exist?

thanks

No. That does not exist. Probably a legend, like the Indian Rope Trick. People claim to have seen it even though it never existed.

Or, maybe she actually had a bump naturally in her hand that resembled a coin. You vanish the coin and there is the bump...Memory and hindsight of magic oftentimes plays great tricks on our spectators. This memory can make legends out of mediocre magicians.

Also, lest we forget, Criss Angel does the one where you see the coin under his skin, then it move across his body and down his arm where he cuts it out. There's lots of blood and the coin that gets cut out from under his skin was signed - there it is!

Thank you Michael for sharing the vast knowledge of, lo, your many years on this earth. I only wish that at my age I had a scratch in the surface of your complete, encyclodpedic knowledge of magic. I now feel that I can sleep tonight knowing that you've given your ruling on whether or not this trick was done by anyone, anytime, in the history of man.

Mike.

I've seen a similar trick where you pull the coin out of the palm of your hand from under the skin with plenty of blood, and you can see an actual incision in the skin, can't remember what it was called though, flesh or something like that

and I've seen the indian rope trik done, it's on 50 greatest magic tricks, it was done outside performed in front of thousands of people. The boy didnt disappea at the top of the rope, but thats still pretty impressive

Nope - or at least doubtful. That effect (or something very similar) was marketed a few years ago, retailing at about £40 or so.

i was just searching on the internet when i came across your topic. A couple of years ago, before i started practicing, a guy i knew from the army did a similar trick on me. He put this coin(american i think, i remember an eagle, oh i live out of the states) then got to close into a fist. I was sure it was still there, could feel it. Then he went on about how the coin would move in my veins, and when he finally got me to open it, the coin vanished. Any help there? I was sure it was in my hand all the time.. :(

If you watch the Criss Angel effect, the method is obvious even to Stevie Wonder.
