DL help!!

Postby cymru1991 » Jul 5th, '07, 19:53

Hi,
recently, I have been having real problems with achieving a consistant dbl lft with my deck of cards. This is particularly annoying for me as one of my "signature" tricks in a short routine was a "j******g g****i" effect. Could anyone who has any tips that could help me with this problem please PM me?

(PS. I have placed asterixes in the trick name as I am not sure wether posting the name would count as revealing the "secret" of the trick as the sleight in question is part of the mechanics of the trick itself)

Basically for DLs you just need to practice A LOT. I'm assuming the problem is that the cards are not aligned properly. For this, try keep a light grip on the cards. and as you turn them over, try not to hold on to them the whole time you are turning them, just turn them about halfway with the aid of your right hand and then just tip them over onto the deck (hope that makes sense). But mostly just !PRACTICE! (that word seems to come up a lot on this forum haha). hope that helps.

luckily, for the effect involved you only need one "normal" DL, the rest can be done as a "push off" DL.

when however, doing a standard DL with a whole deck, i gfenerally do a one handed get ready, though sometimes blatently push a card over right in front of them and get ready in front of their face - because im all balls, they dont think much of it, and I get away with it :P

I do the D/L with a thumb count. I square up with the cards, bevel them at the back and turn over with my thumb and middle finger. I can't actually remember exactly where I learnt it that way but it would either have been RRTCM or Oz Pearlmans Born To Perform.

I use the thumb count too, I find it's the easiest way of doing it. And with a little work, you'll get them looking natural in no time.

I use a pinky count, but that's another thing to practice. Are you having DL problems with full decks or small packets? Is it the break, the turn, alignment, the replace or the time it takes to get it right?

I have a tip

make sure ur DL is 'ready to go' before you perform the move. also, if the problem is that the cards do not square up correctly when turned over, then all you do is instead of droppin the card sqaure with the pack, drop it in front and then push it back. using that method the card automatically squares up.
