Seige
I personally think the chattering is unavoidable

Unfortunately this move was demonstrated to me last night and guess what? Pretty quiet, to the point of silent. Better still, it looked like real magic.

Back to the practice board for another six months.

OK..

This may sound daft.. (I have asperations)

But how long would it take someone like me (I have very little.. and I mean little.. experience of card handling) to learn this.. or is it too darn difficult. I am prepared to put in the effort (like months if I have to) but I don't want to get the video and try and never succeed..

This is just so good.. I really want to learn it !

Thanks

Slippery

Well, I consider myself a 'skilled' hobbyist, and I use the word 'skilled' to mean that I can do an above average amount of sleights.

But, this move, even with some kind words from Midas Kid, is still something I'm ever improving on after about 2 years of practicing.

It's really quite a gorgeous little thing, and ok, I don't practice all day every day, but it's a move that I think becomes 'easy' quite quickly, but getting it totally right is a real quest.

It took me ages to get it so I was happy, and as I said, I'm quite happy with most card handlings. But being fair, I would say that if you're happy with the feel of cards in your hand, this is about a month of hard work to get it looking smooth enough to be fluent.

And this ISN'T one you can practice in a mirror, which is a bit of a bummer. (well, at least I personally found it difficult to practice in a mirror... maybe we just have weird mirrors in our house  )

I guess the real problem with this move is to keep the movement of the fingers to a minimum. So it looks like you are closing the cards and then just spreading them again. I have watched the demo clip on Lee's website and still can't quite get the "natural-ness" (clumsy English) look to the move that he has.

I guess I will show it to someone and ask them what they think they are seeing... don't know I love the move though.

Is the Asher video/DVD "Well Done" any good. I know it contains the Asher Twist (which is the main draw) but I can't seem to find a review here and just wondered if all the other stuff he does is worth the money or not.

LOL

Lee Asher is somewhat a modern genius, in my opinion. (I have to say that, I've received very nice and generous emails from him personally!)

No, seriously, he is a genius. He's got a passion for magic—and his passion is beyond making money. I can't vouch for ALL of his stuff, but its' got to be said that Well Done is a work of art.

I can also vouch for Catch 33, and although that's about the extent of my Asher stuff, that's enough to convince me.

As far as chattering/noisy execution of the Asher Twist is concerned, Lee has personally addressed this issue. To find out more, visit his website (www.leeasher.com) and join the mailing list.

You'll be given access to lots of amazing stuff, including addressing the noise issue.

A thoroughly nice bloke, too. :)

Ok..

I'm convinced.. I'm off to get this now.

Maybe a bit beyond me at the moment but it'll give me something to look forward to and aim for.

Thanks everyone
