what to do if it goes wrong

Postby Flyinbrian » Jul 10th, '07, 14:01

hi, I'm quite new to all this and one thing that always stumps me is what to do if you say "This is your card!!" but it's not (or any other mistake for that matter). It doesn't happen often but it does happen. is it best to just laugh it off or try and redeem the situation in some way at the risk of looking like a bigger plonker.

If you occasionally find yourself in this kind of situation, always try to carry an 'out' with you; in this case, an ID, or something like 3rd Degree Burn (use the Forum's search facility, if you're not familiar with these) would save you from any potential embarrassment :D

if Im not to hand.. try this..

pick up the next card, and say ' this one?'.. then the next and the next.. until you come to their card.. then say ' see I told you I would find it ' looking all gleamy. Then say.. ' Ok Ill show you that again... ' and just go into what you were meant to do '..

personally, I would say dont mess up.. or carry an I.D or glimpse their card so you can work a little mentalism into it.. there are plenty outs but if you have the right personality you can get away with anything!!

Yeah, I'd normally laugh and blame the spec for not concentrating - in a light-hearted manner. Then I'd say something like "Well at least you know it's not just a silly trick. This is the real deal here and sometimes it goes a bit wrong. Come on, let's really concentrate and see if we can do something amazing..."

You get the idea. Sometimes when performing stuff that's a bit more mental than the norm, the odd foul up acts as a good convincer that what you're doing is not mere trickery and is in fact bloody hard. A bit like a professional juggler who drops his first few balls - just to show the audience that what he's doing is not at all very easy.

Yeah as has already been said the ID works well. Although I've stopped carrying it about due to pocket space during the warmer weather and I don't really like gaffed decks.

I either like to blame the spec (in a light hearted way) saying they didn't concentrate right as the MW said.

Or use a make shift pendulum

Can anybody please help me? I'm having terrible problems controlling my streetmagic- I can't walk down a street without turning into a pub.

Outs, Precautions and Challenges is a great little book for this. Other than that, carry an ID and have a good out patter ready.
