And do you share your secrets with her/him?

Let me just get this off my chest from the outset - my wife is my toughest critic when it comes to testing out new tricks. She is usually the first to see that new card trick I've been working on or that new effect I purchased recently. And if she is impressed by it, that usually means it will go down a cracker with other people. When I first met my wife, she treated magic with contempt and disliked watching it. She thought it was for children. Now, she is more supportive of my hobby and is happy to watch me perform, especially when other spectators are present.

I tried out a new card trick on her the other day; what I thought was a simple trick turned out to completely baffle her, which was nice. (It was the trick Derren Brown performed on the second series of Trick of the Mind for that old fella who had his own customised deck). I can't wait to try this out "in the real world" so to speak. Sometimes the simplest of tricks are the best - all it takes is a moment of misdirection and the deed is done. Superb trick.

My wife makes out she doesnt like magic.. but when she sees me perform.. I see that smile in her eye.. she thinks I hot with a deck of cards!!

I hide things from my wife. If she knew I was spending money on magic book and such things she'd go mental. I just ordered Andy Nyman's"Get Nyman" and she caught me watching it and for some reason I got really embarrassed like she had caught me watching porn or something.

She loves most of my stuff as long as it not too dark, and luckily she does not want to know how any of it works....

Mrs dat gets fed up with it and isn't really interested until her friends come around and then it's "show them that trick with the....." and so on.

My wife is a total heckler. When I do a DL, she always wants to flip over the top card as well. I did the Card to Mouth trick the other day (and accidently palmed the wrong card, but oh well), and she went through the entire deck looking for her card. When she found it (good thing I got the wrong card), she took the card out of the deck while my back was turned and put it in her pocket. Kind of like she's the magician, eh? Anywho, she hates card tricks anyways. She likes flashier magic, so she isn't amused by what I am capable of doing.

I get told off EVERYTIME I pick up a spoon after dinner ( I can't cook, so we always eat out) as so often I put a little bend in, just to keep my skills sharp!

My wife doesn't like magic. She does help me practice though, but not exactly graciously. It's only under sufferance since I pointed out that being dragged around H&M and shoe shops isn't a thrilling experience for me.

Our cats are very interested in cards, especially when I spring or Top Shot them. I think I'd be able to train them to help me practice if it weren't for the lack of opposable thumbs making choosing a card very tricky for them.

I think mine used to like magic and still does but she does get a bit fed up with me always figiting with a deck or other such magical items and then regularly trying out new effects or sleights.
To be a magicians widow must be a trying thing although as Charles Calthrop rightly says we have our respective crosses to bear too.

but when you're on your own it'd like "stop wasting your time and money"
