In response to the question, I think that a list containing magic tricks/routines that do not rely on gimmicks is potentially endless.

However, this does somewhat depend on what your interpretation of a gimmick is.

There was a post earlier of some kid making an argument that magic with stooges isnt magic.

Heres some news for you kids. what magicians do is not "MAGIC" it's illusion. The purpose of a magician is to entertain by fooling. So no matter how lame or obvious your trick is, if you can constantly get a good reaction from your audience, you are a good magician.

Gimmicked cards, props, setups... yes, their not impromtu, but are miracles to laypeople.

Isn't this just asking "Can we trade DVDs?"?

I thought that initially but I'm assuming the idea is to 'share' names rather than the DVDs themselves. At least, I hope so......

Ah yes... funny how these things take on a different light when it's pointed out to you; I mistook "can you share disk you know?" to mean "do you know if we can share disks" Apologies.

In which instance I'm going to throw in my favourite money effect, 'Ghost Bills by Andrew Mayne' - very cheap, impromptu (in most instances) and VERY visual. It gets great reactions.

I never made any such argument that stooges aren't magic; I more wanted to know if other magicians considered stooges to be magic. Please do not take my comments out of context; if are uncertain of what I'm trying to say, please PM me before you falsly throw out things I may or may not have ever actually intended to say.

Anyways, I can agree that it's important for new magicians to understand the importance of slights. Any fool can cover his actions with gimmicks (maybe), but it takes some sort of talent and expertise to execute a hidden slight.

Revolution is a good trick that can be adapted in a number of ways to offer alternative productions and vanishes of various small objects such as coins, candy, dice etc.

since you specifically refer to DVD's this seems to fit the bill:

naturally there are numerous coin and card sleights & flourishes that you may use... far to many to list here. something specific you're looking for?

I do hope this isn't the same user who contacted me via MSN asking:

"Hey man, you know any good Magic DVDs which don't need gimmick? I can download them and share them with you"

(well, that's the 'English' version)

Perhaps pirated magic which needs a gimmick isn't as appealing?

As I say at the start of this post, I do hope it's not the same person.

Well you can't download the gimmick, so gimmickless it is. :)

How about.. i dont know, 75% of the tricks in Royal Road to Card Magic?
Every card routine has a trick from RRTCM, get it, and i really recommend R. Paul Wilson's 5 DVD set to accompany. From your post, it seems to me like you're using the DVD's from Ellusionist...
