David Blaine ,Brandy - The real trick name please

Postby Magical_Trevor » Jul 15th, '07, 23:24

I'm not sure if this is the right section to out this, if it isnt, sorry :S

Right, this is the trick:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=76m-amfEFXs

Its called 'David Blaine - Brandy', I cant actually find anywhere which has the actual method of the trick (unless I'm searching for the wrong kind of trick routine name / DVD)

My 2 questions are -

1 - Does anyone know the actual name of this routine and if it is on a DVD which I can purchase
2 - Alternativly, does anyone know an instructional DVD which will teach the method David uses to get the card to the top in preperation for the d/l (the first time round)

I am sorry if this comes across as asking how an effect is done, This IS NOT the intent, I am simply requesting the name of the illusion and / or the name of a DVD which can teach the force he uses which prepares for the d/l - in fact, I would be greatful for any card control DVD titles from you guys :) (I am going to purchase RRTCM soon, so if its on there, just say so, cheers :D)

Without exposing anything, read the comments on YouTube - either the specs are in on it, or DB just kept going around people until he found a spec named Brandy - I doubt very much that it's the 2nd option, so I prefer the first option  .

I'm not sure that the spectators are in on it. This reminds me a little bit of one of the effects on 'The Tempest Concept' DVD.

If it isn't the same card/signature, how many ways can you think of that explain that fact? I can think of at least two reasons other than the ones Moonbeam mentioned.

Aah, the old Brandy trick. Without doubt my favourite Blaine trick ever. I did it once for a girl living near me and she went f:ing apeshit.

the first move that gets the card to the top, if I am not much mustaken, is the paul le paul bluff pass.

could be wrong though. however, I do use it often...very cheaky it is ;)

used it on a friend who is wise to the good ole ways of the pass, and told him "look...a one handed pass...you put it in the middle...*woop*...and it is on top"

he applauded me for my technical ability ;)

If the specs aren't in on it - how do you explain the fact that two of the 2 of clubs have slightly different signatures on them :?:

Spec signs her card with her name, "Brandy." Moments later you can clearly see that the letter "y", in the Brandy, is considerably longer than the initial signature made by the spec.

Don't get me wrong, this trick is well presented, but I hate it when stooges are used - how else do you explain the fact that you clearly see 2 slightly different signatures :?:

cool, cheers guys, I looked into the paul le paul bluff thing, it seems ace, quite hard to perfect - practice till its right i suppose :P

as for the video, I hadnt even thought of them being stooges...could think of ways to copy the signature though...really opened my eyes to the trick with some extra input, once again, cheers guys :P

NB: Continue to comment on this if you want, lol, this isnt a closed thread by any means :)

Ok. She signed "Brandy", but the card shown (for only a brief second) before it was torn was "BRANDY". Those ladies seemed a little drunk. Maybe he had her sign a card a few tricks back and then had it disappear. She was drunk, so she could've forgot ... maybe?

Josh has posted something very similar to one of my possible explanations, although I don't believe it requires someone to be drunk to work.

To use a cliché, you need to think outside the box to come up with another possible method (or two, in fact).

Clue: "The box" is a slang term for TV. Think about filming.

To the lovely moderators: I don't think I'm exposing anything, but it's a judgment call for you!
