That bit's a real dilemma for my wife. On the one hand, she's mortally embarassed that I might regale friends and family with something as awful and cheesy as card tricks. On the other hand, if I'm 'going to spend time and money on all that junk (I'd) better bleeding-well make use of it!'.
Only gin can ease the pain.

What you call heroism is just an expression of this fact; there is never a scarcity of idiots

My wife likes most of the tricks, sometimes I tell her how it's done (especially for tricks that I might need her help when performing for friends  ).
The best moments though were when I performed :

1)3SP with Beyond ESP 2
and
2)My variation of Derren Brown's Smoke (without the "smoke factor" but with an ID)

and she told me that she liked them so much that she didn't want to now how it is done otherwise it would spoil the "magic"
:D

Much like other wives my dearest seems tolerant at best but then will all of a sudden poke her head from her book and say 'hey, that looked really good. Do it again'. Of course i do, get a smile and then make the mistake of trying to talk about it or do more and meet a glazed over look before losing her to the book again.

I'm getting better at picking my times, but it's always dodgy ground!

My girlfriend really likes magic actually and I want to use my girlfriend as a guinea pig for practicing but I don't think she really wants to to be honest.

I think it's because I'm obviously practing on her and I haven't quite perfected everything. Maybe I should wait?

Who else could I use though?! Hmmm :?

exactly!

but when you're on your own it'd like "stop wasting your time and money"

Yes, sounds very familiar. My wife can still be like this, depending on her mood or phase of the moon. I guess women in general just don't have time for magic and see it as a juvenile hobby. It's the same thing with comics and graphic novels.

I bet she would change her tune if I was good enough to perform magic for a living and earn good money from it! Sadly, I don't think that day will ever come.

I probably wouldnt be doing magic to such a degree if it wasnt for the encouragement of my other half. I used to be a bedroom magician until I met her, and that was only the odd trick here and there.
On top of all that, she keeps suprising me with magic books, and spends a ton at christmas (she puts I.D to shame am afraid). And she does pretty well (she had bought things from Banachek, Aronson, Tamariz, Cassidy, Brown, Jermay, nyman etc).
She loves me testing things ot on her, though she wont let me try the strong mentalism type routines (i.e. the ones using suggestion/mind control, or at least seem to) on her anymore, and so I have a few willing victims at work for them.

Being productive

Postby infrared » Jul 17th, '07, 01:22

I reckon (and this is a sweeping generalisation, I will not deny) that, particularly with successful, driven women, if you're not doing something productive with your time, then you are wasting your time. Also, tolerance of anything that could be done instead of spending quality time with her (practising magic, fishing, restoring classic cars etc) is dependent upon how secure she is feeling with herself and her relationship.
My fiancee likes the fact that I get enthused about things, whatever they are and admires me for having the patience to persevere when she would have given up ages before. Lucky me!

One of the many reasons why I'm marrying her next September (although, jokingly, we have laughed about me performing at the ceremony, asking the vicar to think of a card etc.)
