LINKING FINGER RINGS ROUTINE

Postby dat8962 » Jul 19th, '07, 22:43

I recently saw a DVD advertised somewhere for an effect that uses two borrowed rings and the magician links them both together. A few weeks later I watched a performance of this and was impressed but the only problem is that I can't remember where I saw the DVD, or the name of the effect for that matter.

Can anyone point me in the right direction with a name and if possible, a review?

Thanks in advance.

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!

Would this be using a Himber Ring?

Possibly Richard Osterlind's off Mind Mysteries Volume One? In any event it is by far the best handling I have encountered of this effect. The structuring and design of it is just wonderful.

Thanks for the responses. If it's any help I've also found out that Criss Angel performs this on one of his Mindfreek Series 2.

It appears that the magician 'borrows' two wedding rings from a couple of specs and after a few rubs in the right place, they are joined together. Now I don;t know if Angel uses stooges with gimmicked rings, but the DVD that I saw somewhere was, or appeared to be for this same effect and in the description it said if I remember correctly "two borroed rings".

I'll keeo looking but I spent this afternoon checking out all 89 pages of video's on the Alakazam site so that's one off the list to check out  (also built a great CUPS list at the same time  )

There's also a similar sounding routine on the Dave Jones DVD called Real World Magic http://www.rsvpmagic.com/real_world.html if anyone has this title and would care to provide a brief description?

It's very similar. While it is some time since I viewed the DVD (it didn't have anything I felt I'd use, contrary to what I thought when I ordered it), my recollection is that it is pretty much identical to the one Richard Osterlind demonstrates.

I'm not suggesting shenanigans; we all know it's possible for two performers to evolve the same effect or presentation independently.

Dave's performance isn't as smooth as Richard's, but it seems to have been shot live (L&L reshoot things sometimes) and in front of a real audience, as opposed to the extremely friendly one Louis Falanga has on call!

There are some very good effects on the DVD; they just weren't for me.
